Well Horner and Marko love filing complaints against Merc. so I'd say let him go for it. It's just silliness drama. What's the most that could happen to RB, a fine?

They'll never take away enough points to jeopardize RB's championship. Would be a PR nightmare.

 

Since teams are complaining about RB's 2022 performance I wonder if the cost cap breaches in 2021 were for 2022 development? If so maybe any penalties would be applied against 2022 standings.

As long as I've been watching F1 has been as much a political sport as a motor racing sport. Like a high stakes soap opera with high tech cars.

 

reading between the lines of what Toto said about "if Mercedes and Ferrari knew we could spend $5M over the cap we would have" , i suspect this has something to do with money Honda spent on PU development that was not claimed by Red Bull as part of their F1 program costs

 

Interesting. Customer versus factory teams. FIA certainly does a crap job making and policing their own rules. I wonder why Alpha Tauri is not coming under the same scrutiny or maybe "Red Bull" means both teams?

 

Adding to the intrigue is the recent "it's our motor no it's Honda's motor" fooferaw. I wonder if spending caps had anything to do with those machinations.

 

That sounds like that could be a slippery slope. So the other teams just need to open up another company for supplying engines and buy engines for minimal costs. Transferring all losses to that one company. Next thing you know, all teams have shell engine companies selling engines to teams for 1$. Frees up a lot of cap space and I don't think its in the spirit of the rules that they're being held to.

Also, I wonder if there's any strategy in play when the OEM's are making road cars out of F1 parts? Like can they transfer F1 research costs to the road car project without it hitting the F1 budget?

Having said that, I don't really care for cost caps in formula 1. I kinda liked the free for all technology test bed that it used to be. Everyone wants competition, but you only get competition by slowing down the cars and making them more similar. I really hope F1 doesn't turn into a spec series.

 

More drama for DTS. The part of F1 and motor sports I could car less about.

FIA response to Wolff
This evening the FIA responded to paddock rumours of Red Bull’s massive overspend on the 2021 limits.

“Alleged breaches of the Financial Regulations, if any, will be dealt with according to the formal process set out in the regulations.

“The FIA notes significant and unsubstantiated speculation and conjecture in relation to this matter, and reiterates that the assessment is ongoing and due process will be followed without consideration to any external discussion.”

My translation - "shut up and sit down Toto".
