What’s up with FB and Offer Up Sellers?

So I’ve been looking for another Mustang mostly on FB Marketplace and Offer Up and never get replies when I ask if I can come look at the car. So am I just supposed to say I’ll take it sight unseen and pick it up with a hand full of cash? I’m not making any offers let alone lowball offers, I’ve messaged 8 different sellers in the last month or so and got 0 replies. I’ve bought cars online before and never had this problem.
Any other good online classifieds besides FB and OfferUp that aren’t clogged with dealers? I refuse to use Cracklist.
Actually I did get one reply and went to look at the car today and it was at a small sleazy looking car lot where everything was coated in Engine Shine, the guy takes pictures of the cars in front of a house so not to give away he is a dealer

Your luck with Offer Up I think really depends on your location. Here in SoCal, everyone will low ball you hardcore. A $100 product brand new, selling it used for $45, people will ask for $20 and then get pissed when you say no.

I also think OfferUp is rigged to force you to pay them to 'promote' your stuff. I'll have nothing for months on stuff I've posted, so I'll ignore the app, and then get 5-6 messages all in one day. Then crickets again. Like it's hiding my listings waiting for me to pay them.

I’m in SoCal too. I wasn’t aware that offerup worked that way. I’ve sold a few things on FB this year and know what you mean by the low ballers.

Do you guys have Auto Trader in the US? That seems to be the best site in Canada for car shopping.

Yeah, we have Auto Trader but everything listed is sold by a dealer.

The problem is it takes zero effort to post something. Any moron with a phone in their pocket can post an ad and then forget about it

I swear there's an office building full of people somewhere who's only job is to reply to CL ads with "is this still available?" and then never respond again

I think there's an option to search only for private listings but yeah, there could be none in your area.

I'm in a pretty podunkish spot and run into the same thing.
No responses about anything. This is after a life where selling was much more of a pain in the butt to accomplish.
On the other hand I have a Sis who is even older and if she gets 1 person who turns down her junk after coming to look says "This is too much trouble" and will put it on the curb.

That is the default response though. I don't use it but I'm thinking most would just use that to get a conversation going.
laughs, I've written out a questionaire and sent then got back "Yes, it's still availible".

Yeah, I don’t use that default response anymore, I just ask if I can come look at it if I get no response then I just move on.
