Sometimes my favorite days are clean up and reorg days. Just walking around the garage puttings stuff back where it belongs while drinking beer with something good on the TV.

    Awesome work on all!

Btw flat stock standing up would work well as long "gussets" on that skid. Badass either way!

I clean up after every thing I do so no going in and doing that.

But I do look for something to do at times.

I replaced the keyed chuck on my drill press with a keyless chuck not long ago.

Cut some gussets 2 days ago from 3/16" steel.

Replaced the ball bearings on my horizontal bandsaw just yesterday.

Today we've got a rehearsal dinner otherwise I'd find something else to do in there.

Yea i actually was gonna do flat stock but ran out of it and had this laying around. I think it should be fine. I had a Alum skid that had no gussets and it took a beating so this should be a big improvement anyways lol.

Funny thing is, I was just talking to some friends about a specific trail earlier this morning.

I'd need to make some bottom skids for mine as everything is exposed. :bananadead:

Tell me you don't have kids yet without telling me you don't have kids yet. :p

Really though, some projects can't be helped and go on for a month or two.

    This one comes to mind:

[IMG]Shock relocate stuff by Michael Halat, on Flickr

Boxing my frame, relocating my shocks, lifting my gas tank, swapping gas tanks, while I was also rebuilding my R6 to sell. 2 hours at a time before and after work every other day for a month straight to prep for a trip. If I tried to clean up every night it would lead to a lot of wasted time vs leaving the stuff out I will need the same or next day every day.

And because this is the welding thread here is an old video from that project:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1tscWP5BxYo

God it's been forever since I picked up a torch. :annoyed:

Yeah for me music is for doing work, TV is for lounging/clean up/drinking. Or use the TV for music to do work:

Finished up this side job a couple of months ago, buddy of mine that I did it for just got it painted and the entire truck done (close to it at least). He brought me this truck with a surprisingly sturdy existing flatbed on it and a couple of ideas. He got some plates cut how he wanted them and I welded it all together. Pics progress to how it started

Posting this just so @Kwikvette can convince his wife (or himself) about getting a Langmuir Crossfire Pro :fingerscrossed:. Their website says delivery time is down around 2-3 weeks. Mine took 5 months ordered last May.

Tell her, "hey, if an old, midwestern redneck can do this with one, think what a talented young Cali welder could do!"

Made this for my mom. She has Alzhiemers and she sits on her enclosed porch pretty much all day, everyday. Still have a few tweaks to make, but it's close.

30 amps, 55 psi, 3200mm/min cut rate, 18 gauge. My cutting lead-in/lead-out and pierce height/duration numbers are still causing me problems. Cut path (G-Code) is good. Just need more experience.

    Do eeet!

If this 50 year old cat could dive into the CNC rabbit hole and make it work...with very little computer skills, I'm betting the Lagmire (sp), turn key units will serve you perfectly.

I just wish I had more time with mine. It's so much fun making stuff for the shop! (Selling stuff is kinda nice, too).

I had to extend the tire mount 2" to clear the 33x12.5 from hitting the rear of the truck.

... tire fits. swing out handle is unobstructed. success.

Outside of generally better welds (hood time), I really need to figure out how to connect the welds when I work in short sections.

It's really hard to judge (or know the construction) based on one pic but, did you consider adding a bit of reinforcement such as gusseting or the sort?

You've pushed the tire out a bit (2") but considering you've also put a much larger than stock tire, the weight of that plus the added leverage is easily more than the tailgate was meant to carry.

I've secured the left side of the tire carrier to the actual tailgate to try to distribute the weight whereas before it was 100% on the hinges on the left side. I'll be keeping an eye on it as I add some miles and strengthen where necessary. My goal is to build a rear bumper (with tire carrier) over the winter after I knock down the electrical gremlins so hopefully this is temporary.
