Lol, I don't see his comments. But his shortcomings are apparent.

You blocked me because I don’t share the same feelings as you on the superiority of EVs? That’s weird. They’re just trucks. No need to get so emotionally about them.

It raises a question of whether a bigger battery is really better. Longer charging times and carrying around hundreds of extra pounds in batteries all the time just for a marginal gain in range. Is it really worth it or is a midsize battery the best option?

That’s how you rush a vehicle to market and make it look like it has usable range.

The Hummer has that huge battery because it uses way more energy to move the huge thing around. It’s also important to note that the charging methods in that video are not fast charging. The 120v is slow on anything and is really just a last ditch option. The wired in home charger is a good option but still a relatively slow one meant to top off a battery daily not for fast recharges from empty to full.

Isn’t the level 2 charger what most people are going to have at their homes? Isn’t that also where most people will be doing the majority of their charging for both convenience and cost savings?

Yes but you will very rarely be charging from almost zero percent. If you notice it says it’s charging at 13 miles an hour so an overnight 8hr charge adds 100 miles back to the battery, more than enough for most daily commutes.

I’m referring to all EVs not just the Hummer. Is driving around with an extra 500 Pounds really worth it? Would you keep an extra 500 pounds of materials in the bed of your truck if you weren’t using it?

I drove my Tesla down to 12% yesterday. I didn’t need to stop at any DC fast charging on my trip. I got home around 5:30pm and by 12:30am my car was charged back up to 90% with an estimated 354 miles of range.

The Hummer is an extreme example but I’ve thought about that a lot myself in regards to the Rivian Large Pack vs Max Pack. The nice thing is my price is locked in so I can “jump ship” on the Max Pack at any time and get a Large Pack and the longer I wait the more revisions to hardware that I get for “free”.

The weight is the thing I hate about electric vehicles. It's more like 2000lbs of battery for a good sized vehicle. It's ridiculous

He’s referencing the delta between a large and very large battery pack not the entire weight of the pack.

The weight difference between a Rivian and a Tacoma double cab is like 2500 pounds. That’s about the weight of an older Honda Civic. Going to the max pack battery will most likely add another 500 pounds to that. That’s like a yard of mulch. Imagine driving around with a load of mulch and Honda Civic in your Tacoma. That’s an insane amount of weight in a small package.

But the weight itself shouldn't matter.... at all times with ICE you're at what ~30% efficiency? So at the end of the day it's total energy used and even with the weight of an EV it's way less than an ICE vehicle

I’m thinking more along the lines of driving with that much weight rather than which is more efficient. That’s a lot of weight to stop in the rain, snow, ice etc. Swerving to avoid an accident? Driving in sand, mud or even your front lawn. It could even be an issue with small bridges.

If you get big enough, like with the Hummer. But for normal vehicles, even an EV full sized truck or SUV, it won't be more significant than anything ICE today.

I take it that not everyone has four 125 pound babes that sit in their truck waiting to be sexed? Hmmmm.
