Vedauwoo and Curt Gowdy State Park are very nice local areas to explore near Cheyenne as well as the mountain ranges beyond Laramie.

Thanks for the insight, TRD Intake Flow Accelerator PTR03-35160-AE and TRD High Flow Air Filter PTR0334140 seem to be common "poor man's mods" on the forum for those that don't want to drink all of the koolaid on CAIs but just want more intake sound or a reusable air filter at a minimum. So I thought others might benefit from the question being asked.

Those components will net you pretty much all the benefit to the full TRD intake without the extra flashy bits. Personally, I plan to add the accelerator to our Shop Truck and test to see which drop-in filter makes a difference at supercharged airflow levels. For N/A use, our testing has shown the stock air filter to be of a net-zero restriction in terms of WOT output.

    *EDIT*
Now that we've fitted the supercharger, we can also confirm that the OE filter provides no meaningful amount of restriction even at airflow levels required to make 360whp. We've done back to back testing and validated the OE airbox and filter are no restriction even above 350whp.

I don’t know if it’s just my truck. But after 500 miles on the tune, it is still jerky. I got the light throttle but now it feels like I have the aggressive tune on it. I can feel the transmission jerk a little bit each shift. Low speed driving is very difficult (under 30 mph). It stays in those lower gears for way too long for those speeds. Highway seems to be only good thing I have found so far. Could the tune be stuck or something?

I'm sure we can get you taken care of. The behavior you mention isn't normal for our tune. However, your preference/need might be a little different than our target, making even some of our lightest settings a bit much. Others want the "hot" sauce so to speak. We worked hard developing a gamut of offerings that generally fit most folks needs. Sounds like we might have to make some custom tweaks to our baseline setting to meet your expectation - which is no problem at all!

Are you a self-flasher or did you meet up with someone to have your OTT tune flashed? That'll help steer our next steps. Either way, we're committed to making sure you get what you need.

Thank you for letting us know something was up and not meeting your expectation!

Do you recall who tuned you and when that was? We don't have anyone based out of GA, our owner, John is based out of Birmingham. Did you meet up with him?

It was an independent tuner. It was about 2-3 weeks ago. I can send a message of his name if you would like.

I got the OTT tune with spicy throttle setting done by Ben at Wyoming Overland Tuning and have about 3-4 hours of driving on the Interstate 25 rollercoaster stretch between Cheyenne and Casper Wyoming, very impressed with the overall power! At the time I had a full tank of Sinclair 88 octane, will be trying it out with Sinclair 91 octane ethanol-free this coming week.

I chose the spicy throttle setting vs non spicy because I think it works best with the manual transmission because you're typically keeping your revs up while shifting with the 6 MT vs the automatic transmissions that instantly do it all for you.

Ben was with me for the test drives and I shared my thoughts on the throttle settings with him as I was one of his first 6 MT customers.

Mine was too. Someone mentioned in response to my query about this to have the learned settings wiped prior to tuning. I asked my tuner to do that and reflash, drives very well now and this issue is gone!

Question for anyone who may know: I intend to get an AGM battery here shortly. I realize I can get reflashed such that the alternator puts out the correct voltage to recharge AGM. However, does the OTT tune (or can it) know when full charge is complete, and then transition to the floating charge? I'd hate to keep putting 14.4v, 14.6v, whatever into a fully charged battery == premature death.

    TIA.

No, there is no floating charge setting. It is a constant output.

What is the Alternator duty output ratio? Isn't that relative?

Curious how much improvement you notice with 6MT... I'm tempted to get serious about it but still basically stock for now and not sure I would really need it

The stock manual transmission gearing with the stock 4.30 gears is a decent performance setup out of the gate that gives you an rpm & gear controllability edge over the automatic drivetrain gearing configuration. The tune gets you more responsive throttle & engine power and does make the truck feel lighter. I'm also a more spirited driver who wanted a little more kick in the responsiveness from the engine & throttle also without going to a supercharger. If you're satisfied with your stock engine & throttle response then you might not want or need the tune as you already have a good manual drivetrain for rpm & gear control.

Thanks for the feedback. I think I'm mostly waiting to see if I lift or do bigger tires.

Overland Tailor Tuning is pleased to announce it now offers calibration support for the 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2020 Automatic transmission 2.7L Tacoma's.

We've taken the same approach and philosophy to the 2.7L as we have with our popular 3.5L tune to the 4cyl market. Our emphasis is aimed at improving the low end output of the engine, even on 87 octane fuel while reprofiling the shift scheduling to optimize it for the output of this engine. We've also remapped the throttle settings to bring this little engine to life and put your right foot in charge of the engine.

Be sure to contact your local tuning resource to get scheduled.
