The Tacoma made its maiden voyage out of the country this past week :canada:

No super cool truck pics because we were exploring the cities and it stayed parked in garages while we walked everywhere but man was it great to have such a reliable truck for the long haul drive.

Stopped in Lake George, NY on the way back for lunch. Not my first time there but it was nice to visit again. I think soon I might start keeping a list of US states the truck has been to…I suspect it will hit all of the lower 48 eventually.

Actually just built one yesterday for my brothers F250 did a 4x8 box with 2 slide out drawers. Cost about $300 in materials and 3 hours time for us. Not overly sophisticated but we just measured and cut along the way with the goal of simplicity in mind. Perfect for his work truck

I just did this on Friday. Already got the plywood (which i covered in a thin carpet material for no sliding or splinters) to sit on top. Gonna throw a mattress on there for camping.

This is sweet! Definitely agree with keeping a list of places you take the truck to. That's super sweet you took it out of the country. I've never been out of the country with my rig.

Thanks man! Yeah it was a lot of fun. That’s basically what I’m trying to build the truck out for, like a long-distance trip rig.

It’s nice having the truck instead of flying because it feels kinda more like home even though you’re in a different country. If that makes sense. I also love the fact that don’t miss anything in between your starting point and the destination. I feel like I miss out on seeing a lot of things when I fly instead of drive.

Since I bought that solid axle 85 yota pickup with the right rear frame rusted I'm thinking this may be a option. People are cutting the rear section off at the cab and installing a 4 link rear frame/suspension. Not sure if I want another project right now, I still have my fzj80 project sitting. But I can let it sit until I'm ready to tackle it. My good friend @Tonymontana & Mobtown Joe are great welders.:D

Plus having the truck gives you a piece of "home" and you're comfortable with it. And like you said, you most definitely miss out on seeing a lot of stuff when flying. My wife wants to take a trip to Florida and I suggested driving the 4Runner. Welllllll as you can imagine, from Northern VA that's one hell of a drive and just not feasible for our family. But man would I f'ing love to do it. The furthest I think I've driven in my rig is up to Delaware or Tennessee.

Do you have pics of the 80? Are you doing a build thread for it? I would love to see it.

Yeah man exactly. A trip like that would be awesome! It is very hard to find the time for such adventures though. These days the cost of everything is a pain in the ass too.

I have 2 triple locked 80's. One is built but rusty 1994 that I bought off of a local member here (travistheone) for $1700. My other one is a unmodified 1 owner rust free 1995 that I bought for $1400 with a bad headgasket from a neighbor of fellow TW member Mobtown Joe. I bought the lifted one for parts to build the stock one but it ran & drove so good I couldn't bring myself to part it. No build thread, I bought a new sxs so all my extra time was playing with that instead lol.

I found my stock one sitting in a driveway in Denton with no tags and a flat tire. I busted a uturn and asked about it, that always embarrasses the wife lol. The old guy bought it brand new. The lifted one I found right here on TW.

Freaking beautiful, man. Triple locked seems to be the big deal about those things. I would absolute love one, doesn't have to be triple locked, just a nice, no rust, low mileage daily driver. Things are bad to the bone. There's a guy on Instagram who buys and flips all kinds of Toyotas, but he's got an FJ80 that he's built up. His username is nuttynu4x4. He also does YouTube if you're interested.
