Hey everybody! I am a long time lurker here and decided to finally get a handle so I can post and contribute. I recently picked up a set of TRD wheels for my 2018 sport and a set of Duratrac tires. I have since decided that I would like to lift the truck 1.5-2” so, I picked up a kit from off-road alliance which is really just a set of 5100’s with an Icon AAL. There are a lot of videos out there documenting the installation, among other things but before I get after it I wanted to ask the community if there was anything you regretted not doing at the same time and/or lessons learned. It’s a street driven truck 99% of the time so that simplifies things but I’d love to hear input and feedback. Many thanks in advance!

I would do the ECGS bushing while you have it apart.

Did the 2" 5100 lift and absolutely love it! I went from a 265/70/16 tire, to 265/75/16 C Load Duratracs. Best moves eva......

These are also my winter tires as they come with the 3 peak snow designation.

Thanks for chiming in! I just went down a rabbit hole a bit with regard to the clamshell style bushing. I am very much hoping that this is not an issue for me. The truck only has 16,000 miles on it. As for tires, I am using 265/70/17.

Mileage doesnt dictate it, the angles do. My truck has 1000km and still needed it, I was one of the first to do it lol.

You can try a 5100 lift and see what happens.

When you get the truck aligned, make sure to ask the for the most caster, 265/70R17 can rub, even with mud flaps removed. So you want the wheel pushed as far possible.

Interesting. I sure hope the increased road feel with the Duratracs isn’t actually drivetrain vibration. The 265/70 actually gave me a pretty good lift on its own.

Duratracs are a very loud aggressive tire, I owned a set and they get pretty loud over time. Make sure to do diagonal tire rotations. They can last for a long time if you keep up on rotations.

    Gents,
Just noticed that position #5 (2”) is not recommended for access cabs. Can anybody confirm? I understand the truck would not be as heavy but would love some real world advice on the effect or lack thereof. Hoping to get this installed Wednesday as rain is forecast for the next few days. Many thanks in advance!

You are correct. But #4 @ 1.55" is pretty close to 2". Do it, do it!

And yes, as some have mentioned the Duratracs are louder, because they are the most aggressive tire out there. Closest thing to a M/T, but with the road chararistics of an A/T. Do it, do it too! (And a great winter tire too, to boot)

Bilsteins 5100s on the top setting, 4runner Gray TRD Pro Sema wheels, 285/70/17 Toyo AT3s, Sumo Bump stops, TRD exhaust, ECGS Clamshell bushing, 1/4 shim for the lean and one inch rear block, OEM Pro grill and garnish OEM TRD Skid plate, TRD CAI, Demon Brackets, Rigid Industries Pro fog lights, OEM Trail Rails sidebars, Diode Dynamics LED SL1 high and low beam lights, OEM Roof racks, Clazzio leather heated seats, Remote Start, TRD Pro shift knob, tinted windows, Rockford Fosgate 4 channel amp for the headunit and sub and amp combo, OEM Puddle lights, OEM tailgate lock, OEM bed mat, LED interior lights, OEM blackout kit for letters, JLT catch can, upgraded 27F toyota True Start battery, Vleds led tail light kit with Pro tail lights, OEM Rave4 side mirrors with convex spotters, just to name a few mods.
I did the 5100s on the 4th perch and a 1/4 shim on the driver's side and a 1 inch block in the rear with the ECGS clamshell bushing. I also did the front diff and rear carrier drop to keep everything in spec. We did this set up on my DCLB 4wd and the same on my Son's DCSB except he is on the 5th perch. Side by side they look the same in the front and can not even tell a difference in the 4th vs the 5th perch. His is more level and mine has a slight rake. Both trucks sit on the same wheel and tire combo 265/7/17 Toyo ATs. The ride is the same and since my Son drives more he updated the tires to the new Toyo AT3s and now the tires ride so much better than my AT2s.

@VaToy: the diff & carrier drop prevented all the driveline vibes? My '17 DCLB I did the 5100s/888s w/ AAL and ECGS bushing but still had some vibes in a narrow speed window

*edit: wasn't the front diff vibes

I was eyeballing the AT3’s but went with the Duratracs. I have an alignment scheduled and was curious what kind of caster I should add in? I am on 265/70/17’s and I just BARELY kiss the driver’s side mud flap in reverse.

I didn't have any vibrations, everything was done at one time, added it per the advice of a few fellow members here and the owner of a well known off road shop that's been doing the best work for many years here in our area. I did develop a vibration at 58 to 62 mph but a wheel weight was lots during the first 100 miles and was rebalanced and it's been perfect for close to 4 years. The front diff drop and rear carrier bearing dropgot everything back to spec and it was a preventative move like the ecgs bushing also. I did a 1/4 shim for the lean and also the sumo bump stops were later added. Awesome ride and very smooth, vibration free and with the Toyo at2s SL rating kept the rubbing issues and calibration perfect. IMG_20221004_091950628.jpg

Definitely a sharp truck. I have a magnetic gray access cab. I contemplated those color wheels but opted for the matte black. I’ll have to snap a few of mine after the lift.

Installation was a success. The alignment was pretty good except for the caster on the driver’s side. Ironically, that was where my tire was JUST barely kissing the mud flap. Caster ended up at ~ 1.5. So far so good with noises and vibration. Drives great and the shocks feel perfect for my taste. Happy I did this. My guess is that the caster was off when I purchased new FWIW as I have not had any hard hits or potholes in the 17,000 mile journey thus far.
