I've owned two 3rd gens and now my 21's visibility in rain is awful. Water splotches up instead of beading off.

What do you guys use to fix this problem?

I normally use the windshield wipers, they do a great job of clearing the window.

Doesn't do shit. water splotches up instead of beading off like in other yotas/lexuses I've owned.

I have 50k miles on my 21'. Highway visibility sucks in moderate/heavy rain. cleaned the wipers blades/ changed them out for new blades. still sucks.

    Might use Rainx

The "fix" for water on the windshield is the windshield wipers. It's actually their primary function. If your wipers are failing to clear the water from the affected area and "don't do shit", visit your dealer for a repair.

Really? I thought the wipers were for repelling women who jump on my hood.

It has to be the windshield glass used. I've owned two tacomas, 18' SR5/ 21' SX and noticed this problem on both. I also had a 22re, lexus SC400, and 1st gen tundra. Never had this problem water beaded off.

Can't be the only one who notices this.

Any chances of mineral, calcium deposit on the windshield? Maybe a good windshield polishing may work.

Glass is glass, my dude. Clean glass doesn't splotch.

So, A) clean your glass. :cookiemonster:

    B) replace your wipers. Seriously. Get a good single-beam blade instead of a cheap conventional, and replace them annually.

    C) then consider treating your glass with a rainx coat. I bet you won't need it.

PS, don't be a cock when asking a question. Say thank you for answering, and THEN when the thread is resolved that's when it's ok to bust balls.

So, assuming that you are being serious and not trolling. Is the windshield clear when its dry? No wavy or otherwise obstructed spots? Are you implying that you dont have to use the wipers on your other vehicles? Or that they dont seem to clear the water on this vehicle? I have used rainx products before and had good luck with it, maybe try that.

I have to assume the glass is dirty. Not being a smartass.
Even "beading up" is a sign that there is some contamination present for the water to cling to.

A perfectly clean surface (glass, metal, painted, etc.) will have what is known as "break water free". Achieving this on bare metal is paramount prior to painting. Same will hold true for good water shedding glass. Clean the hell out of it. Then clean it again.

WTF.... As post number 2 said or Rain-X... Can't say I've had a issue with OEM's or the replacement blades (not brand specific) I've used over the last 5+ years :notsure:

Buff the glass with some light cut compound and a rag or buffer. Rain-x after if you want but probably wont need to.

In all seriousness, it sounds like the paint needs waxed and the windshield needs rainex. I generally pay for the dealer ceramic coating, as it’s price competitive, and done by the same shop I would take it to anyway. It’s more expensive than DIY wax, but I don’t have to worry about for years.

If your truck is white, I’ve heard that it is the only color that doesn’t get a factory clear coat as well. Don’t know that for a fact, just passing along prior conjecture, myths, and legends.

I installed rain x latitude wipers a week ago. I immediately went on a 1,500 mile trip; about 600 of those miles were straight highway driving in the rain and the rain x wipers were so good the visibility was like I didn’t have a windshield.

Might want to give those a try. Like $25-30 a wiper, so nothing crazy.
