What Have You Done To Your 3rd Gen Today?

Broke a headlight hitting buzzard,so took the opportunity to upgrade headlights. Quick research showed that the OEM LED were the best choice and thanks to @daveeasa for making the wiring harness that makes it possible. Like any other project had its share of frustration but as you can see in one photo I had some entertainment to distract me. lol Overall super happy with them and looking forward to testing them tonight. Any one looking to upgrade headlights. This is the only option you should consider.

 

I was in 2WD 99% of the time. Went into 4H once only because it was steep and wet as well as narrow. I went back to 2WD because there were some tight switch backs. Overall it was not challenging at all. Beautiful scenery though.

 

I used to have a cabin in Townsend so evening trips through Cades Cove to count deer was a ritual. Been going there since I was a kid. Haven't been in a while and need to get back soon. Had a bear get in our truck once while camping at the Cades Cove campground in a homemade truck camper my dad built. Good times.

 

just bought some myself from someone here in TW for my SR5. hopefully i'll change them this weekend. your truck looks good.

 

My grandparents had several places over the years in Townsend. Same here. Been going since I was a kid ( 52 now ). My parents are from Maryville area. Have tons of cousins aunts and uncles up there. Good times indeed.

 

Wanted tp share some info for anyone looking at DEPO brand tinted Pro headlights. Put them in my 3rd gen and they looked awesome. After 1.5 to 2 years the tint, inside the lens, began to delaminate. I would avoid that brand. OEM is def the best option.

 

Today, I did the ever so popular Pro style grille swap, and added a Rough Country bull bar. This coming Thursday or Friday, I'm hoping to have some black TRD wheels, and Falken AT tires for a more aggressive look. I really can't stand these Ultra Mavericks that the previous owner had. Blah!

Changed out the factory shift knob

 

Finally got my rigid fog brackets so I could repurpose the DOT rigids off the tundra.

 

Got hitched over the weekend got a few neat pictures with my ring bearer and truck

 

I just picked my truck up from the dealer after filling it with tainted gas(yes I put an entire tank full in it). Apparently the supplier to several Shell stations in the East TN and VA area messed up the fuel. Our trucks are pretty sensitive to bad gas.
At first it just pinged and knocked at low rpms when the slightest amount of load was added, then it started to reaally lose power and not want to shift down when pressing the peddal.
Next day, i started it up to take it to the dealer, and it started coughing, burping and then lost every bit of power it had. Barely made it, I mean BARELY, back in to the driveway where I had to get it towed.
A full system flush, drop and empty the gas tank and 6 new spark plugs later... Fortunately, my insurance paid for it and the gas station paid my deductable. Eveyone I have ever talked to about anything like this has had no luck getting the gas station to cop to the problem. This one did. It wasn't water. An I still don't know what it was, but the tech said it smelled funky kind of like WD40.

So I treated my baby to 93 octane fuel and a nice complete wash. At least I picked a good week to get COVID(if thee is such a thing)

I have to say though, I now get anxiety putting gas in my truck. Unreasonable? yes. But i am sure I'll get over it,

Installed the OEM LED rigid fog lights. I had the other OEM LED fog lights but I like the look of these.

 

Definitely understand your concern. My dealership threw in a 7 year 75k mile free maintenance package (Car Doc) which includes air and cabin filters as well as brakes (including shoes and pads). Just figured I’ll take advantage of the generosity and if anything goes wrong all maintenance was performed at an authorized dealer. Once it’s up though if I’m able to perform my own maintenance (god willing) I’ll do it myself. If not I know of a couple reputable local mechanics that could do the job.

 

That’s a clean spreadsheet. Is that an app or just outlook?
