Tunes with Gear Lock

I can’t wait for gear lock. There’s been so many times towing where I wish I could give it just a little more in 3rd or 4th without it kicking down.

 

Gear lock is so nice. I’d probably have sold my truck by now if it wasn’t for it.

Now to get it with a newer tune…

 

I’m a little confused. I just updated to 1.6.9.5, all looks good… how do I get the gear lock and map switching patch tune? I read something about copying the old tune into the patch?

 

So back to this. Any other brands other than OVTune that has gear lock? I’m having trouble getting ahold of them.

 

As of now, all of us that make tunes can make tunes with Gearlock. The only catch is that you have to put ECT on with SMode to have Gearlock. There is no working -SMode only-gearlock.
So, if you are ok with losing your ECT function (with a Gearlock tune it is unsafe using ECT in Drive), you can ask any of the tune makers for a Gearlock tune.

Gearlock= ECT+SMode
SMode= still functions normal
ECT+Drive= Truck will not downshift

 

Oh yeah so right now I have a very old OVTune version with gear lock. I run 38’s with 4.88 gearing and anything other than gear lock sucks to drive. I read that OVTune made some good improvement so I wanted to update mine but I’m having trouble getting ahold of them. That’s why I’m looking to see if there are other vendors that offer gear lock.

So I guess then the verdict is pick a good tuner and start over but ask for gear lock as well?

 

Yes. As long as you know how it works, anyone can make a gearlock tune.
You also need to make sure you are on the most up to date VFTuner software. All the old Ovtune stuff does not work anymore. All the new tunes have to be flashed with the up to date Vftuner software.

 

Very well versed in gear lock. Been using it since it first came out. Maybe 4 years? I pretty much have to start over since Im still on the dongle version.

As stated above, all of us providing tunes as a service make gearlock options.

Sometime in the near future, this will no longer require robbing you of normal ECT function.
