Im running 265/75/16 General Grabber ATXs. I love them but I am probably going to switch to a 255/85/16 skinny when they wear out. I think the 265’s look a little small on my truck. I also would love to run a true 33”.

I’ve been spending the last month or so trying to stop myself from buying a new set of 255’s because my Grabbers still have a lot of life left in them. I’m also scared of the increase in road noise going from an AT tire to a MT tire.

The Grabbers are truly an amazing tire but if someone offered me the right amount, I’d probably sell them and buy skinny 33”s because I’m dying to try them out. I think they would look killer on my truck. I’ve also been doing a stupid amount of research and I think a skinny 33 would be perfect for how I use the truck.

They look great. I used to have the St Maxx's in 285/75/16 before one popped. They had 62K miles on them when one day I got a flat. AAA was dispatched and hooked up an air compressor and the thing went kaboom. So that was the end of those for me. Then I went to the AT3 XLT's.
Those look excellent on your truck. How many miles do you have on them so far? I will say, mileage improved almost little to none when I went to the AT3 XLT's from the St Maxx's. Road noise definitely decreased though and the AT3's give a lot softer ride quality overall.
I'm gonna stick with 16's because I have no good reason to spend money on new wheels. They work and look okay to me, so I'll focus on what tire and size I like the most. 35's are going to be a lot for stock gears but it is doable. What's the stock gear ratio for your truck? I've got 4.10's and they push 33's okay. I do notice a difference between my current setup vs. 265/75's though.

I have about 15K miles on them. Best tire I’ve ever run so I feel silly wanting to try out a 33…unfortunately they don’t make a 255 Grabber in my size. I don’t want to miss out if there’s something better out there for my use case.

They are wearing so well that a fellow Tacoma enthusiast thought they were new tires the other day when we were chatting about my truck lol.

Wife ordered this Intex inflatable hot tub off of Amazon back in 2017 for $400. Water temp max is 104°. Best thing we ever bought for the cabin. It's been a big help with this sciatic nerve pain too. Now since we live here full time she wants a real hot tub.

We need to do this again soon. Soon as my sciatic nerve pain heals I'm hosting another TW cabin meet.

I had 265 75 16 on my 4runner. Last summer I swapped the wheels/tires onto the Taco (stock suspension), just so see how well they fit and if the wider tire would kill the power from the 2.7 The tires fit the Taco no problem, no rubbing or anything like that, the 4 banger didn't like it at all. At that time, I had a set of 5th gen 4runner wheels and had just scored a set of Wrangler take off wheels/tires for stupid cheap, so I had the 245 75 17 Good-for-a-year Kevlar wranglers mounted on the 17" 4runner wheels and put them on my 3rd gen 4runner. Once I decided that the Taco didn't like the wider tire very much ( I really felt it on hills), I put the 17" 4runner wheels/tires on the Taco and put the 265's back onto the 4runner. Earlier this spring, when I did the Tundra brake upgrade to the 4ruuner, I wanted the 17" wheels for caliper clearance, so the 17" 4runner wheels went onto the 3rd gen 4runner and the stock steelies went back onto the Taco.

So to summarize the tale- 245 75 17 is basically the same height as the 265 75 16 tires, both fit the 2nd gen Taco without any rubbing issues and both tires fit the 3rd gen runner w/ stock suspension without any issues. I personally like the tall/skinny look of the 245 75 17 and there are a ton more choices of tires in that size.

Have you run them before? They definitely look slick, I dig them a lot. And no shame in wanting to give 33's a shot. I'm really interested in the 255's purely for aesthetics.

Agreed. I'm glad the swip swap experiment worked out in your favor, lol. I too like the skinny tall look. Pizza cutters as I like to call them! Hopefully in a few years when I need new rubber I can pick a 255 in whatever flavor I want (more than likely the St Maxx's again)

Nope I’ve never run anything bigger than the 265’s, that’s why I’m so interested.

I also really love the way they look. I feel like a good set of skinny tires gives a truck that nice clean utilitarian look.

Good morning TWMD. I hope we dry out a little today. It rained so hard yesterday that my second story office had major water intrusion around a window so bad that the drywall deteriorated and I had a wet spot on the carpet about 10'x6'. Hoping for some sunshine.

Have you considered a topper lift? Generally what you describe is how I'm setting things up, though I've been moving so haven't worked on the design of the base/platform/drawers. The best part about the topper lift is also the worst for my ego...When driving around the truck looks very UN-broverlander. But thats the best part too - no unwanted attention. It's just a big-ass silver tacoma. A second best part is, while driving around the truck's profile remains 'stock + canopy'. No adjustments in driving or parking or whatnot. And believe you me, whatnot can be the worst :). Another best part - because the topper lifts I can compensate for the room the platform takes-up by raising the topper a bit if I have to haul tall cargo.

I love my 255s - and yeah, my truck can look kinda funny, but I like it. I'm on my second set, as the truck came with them (Cooper ATs vs my newer Wildpeak MTs) But they go very well - longer contact patch vs some of the better-looking, wider tires. And my truck hasn't yet been 'that one truck' that gets stuck on group drives - proof to me the tires are working very well. And they are lighter weight than some / all? of the wider better-looking tires, so that's a win for me.

Damn that’s unfortunate, sorry to hear that!

That’s a killer looking truck man, I love it. I would have never guessed those are 255’s, they look huge! Are those 17 inch wheels
    or 16?

Thank you. The new C4Fabrication bumper should/could be here in a few weeks, which will make the truck look less normal - but I didn't have a ton of choice after she got intimate with the back of a corolla a month or two ago. The tires look legit skinny in real life, especially when parked next to other trucks. Since that pic, I've raised the front end via the 5100s; they were on stock height for that pic.

Gotcha, I think a C4 bumper will make that thing look even better. Post up a pic when it’s on the truck!
