Chances are good that if you drive a lot in a short time, like me driving 90K in two years, you are on the interstate so brakes are not used much.
If it takes you 10 years to drive 100K, chances are you are around town and off road. That was my point.

That’s only 3.6 cents per mile, a bargain.

At the end of the day, look at your fluid condition. Once it's more yellow than clear, think about bleeding.

Does not matter the drive line. Go fast or go slow. That matters.

Not surprising. Hell, local toyota dealer quoted me $750 to change my sparks plugs while the engine is out.

Shoot, in my younger years the fluid in some of my brake reservoirs looked like earwax! We really didn't give a fuck as long as the brakes worked. How times have changed! But to be fair cars really didn't last that long back then regardless.

At 30k, besides oil change, my dealer suggested rear and front diff fluid. I did the rear. Then at 50k, I had them do the front diff fluid. At 65k I had them do the plugs and clean out fuel injectors. Dealer pushed strongly for the plugs and left rest up to me. I think the diff fluid changes cost me about $175 for each. I also needed front brakes, so I had dealer do them. Not a lot of pressure so far from dealer.

this is why i change my own fluids. i only use the dealer for warranty work. i'm even skeptical of their free service because they usually have the techs with very little experience working on oil changes.

If they're resurfacing your rotors like they're supposed to when they replace brake pads, it's not a bad deal at all. Also, if you can do your own rear diff.... May as well do your own front. Same plugs, same torque, same fluid.

Yup. Toyotacare jobs don't pay dick to techs, so most of the time those jobs go to lube bay.

Seems like a lot. I just had all of that done, minus the steering flush, for around $675. Got an alignment too.

Even if you are medium with your mechanical skills, much of this is easy DIY and there is a ton of info in TW to help, also many of us would be willing to help as well. This is the best bet to reduce that cost as others have said. Bleeding brakes can be a PITA if you are by yourself and do not have extra equipment, I let someone else do that, mostly solid a solid indi shop. Most of the costs is labor as someone else stated, the actual cost of the fluids, etc. is small. The icing on the cake is that you have some satisfaction of a job well done (I find it therapeutic) and the peace of mind that it was done the right way, not always wondering if the tasks were actually done or not at the dealership (on my 2nd gen I popped to hood after a Toyota care oil change and found a container still wedged below the filter and on the serpentine belts, good thing I did not start the truck).

I change mine once a year regardless of miles. 6 1/2 years at only 54k, so averaging about 8k per change... sometimes it's a bit less 6-7k. But I'm usually in the engine bay doing something or working on the wife's car or my Tundra so I check the dip stick every few months. takes a minute to check. Just a habit now. I do most everything myself

I often wonder what the take rate is with those dealer service quotes. I know some people approve it because they don't know any better and have the money.

30k? I thought it was at 60k for a full flush fluid change?
