So does 2WD lol. I had a 2017 2WD offroad that was totaled. Replaced it with a 2022 OR 4wd, got in it to drive home. Went to put my sunglasses away and was like w t f? I do still miss it but i sure would rather have the 4wd

Sounds like your 3rd gen doesn't have nav is all as far as the home display and your 2nd gen did. Mine is the same with just showing contacts and the fuel efficiency on the right hand side.

My navigation only works with my phone, on our 2012 prius it doesn't need the phone. I feel toyota cheaped out, instead installed a bunch of useless nanny bs.

What year is it? I ask because my 2018 has the exact same interface as my buddy's 2015, and I'm assuming the 2015 can't be far off if not identical to the 2014. Nav came standard on TRD trucks UNTIL 2020 when they switched to CarPlay. From that point, built-in navigation became optional again, basically it's the same head unit but now you have to purchase the software. Heck it might even be a chip.

No matter what year, you can still configure your home screen under Settings. It might take some playing around with but Home Screen Settings shouldn't be buried too deep.

And yes, to add to the shitstorm (potentially)... Manual TRD Off-Road and Pro trucks retain the sunglass holder:crapstorm::burnrubber:

Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe the TRD Sport 6MT models have the sunglasses holder as well. :)

They sure do! But the automatic TRD Sport doesn't have a Crawl Control knob taking up the sunglass holder space so I didn't mention it.

My gps always knows, and I've been to some remote places. The trick is you need real satellite driven gps, like a Garmin, not the fake cellphone gps that just runs off of cell towers.

These are available for less than 12 bucks on ebay. I know, I know - you had to spend money on your truck when in the past you didn't. Well, how long did that full tank of gas from picking it up at the dealer last?

All major brand smart phones have had GPS receivers in them for the better part of a decade. Cell data is only used to load the map and those can be downloaded if you wont have service.

It will, iPhones have had GPS receivers since 2008. Cell towers are needed to load the maps because they're not stored on the phone. Google maps, among many others, allow you to download maps so that they will work even without cell service.

I personally use the Trail Treker app for snowmobile and ATV maps because it allows you to download them. Cell service is spotty at best where we go and it always works perfect even without cell service. Anywhere you can get a GPS signal it will work without issue.

"Trail Treker takes any map and makes it work with your GPS-enabled smartphone...offline.

That's right, you don't need mobile coverage to use the app or the map. Why? Because we enable you to load your map with all the tiles (that means you can zoom in and out) and see your position at all times via GPS on your map."

How do it on Google Maps. Seems like your dad may want to do this if he's in areas outside of cell service.

I ran into an issue only once. I was update NY. I’m old school though and always have the old road atlas in the truck. I do wonder though how many people would struggle to read a map these days. Maps and asking for directions are bygone days.

None to speak of, just enjoying it for the moment.
Mine does too, But I have the Limited which comes with the premium tech package, maybe that's the difference? Oh and the MTS controls I believe take the place of the sunglass holder on the Off-Road/Pro models.
