01 Tacoma 2.7 got it from my uncles estate. Strong smell of gas around driver side. Check engine light on. Lack of power. Can reset code and truck comes to life and few miles up road check engine light will come on.

yeah get the codes pulled, any auto parts store should do it for free. Let us know what they are. Without knowing the codes and given the small description it could be any number of things. The check engine light codes will point in the right direction.

Will do. Before I forget to say with the check engine light on around 60-65 is fast as it’ll go without beating on it.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe those both point toward the first 02 sensor (the one before the cat converters). Could be due for a replacement

Yeah they're aren't cheap, but you really want to stick with OEM (Denso brand) with sensors on these trucks. Toyotas don't play well with aftermarket sensors even though the price can be tempting.

the first O2/AF sensor helps control fuel trims and could explain why you're getting poor performance out of the truck if it's not functioning right.

I'm just tossing an idea out though, there's other things that could trip those codes but from what little Googling I did on both it sounds like that front sensor can account for both of them.

The odor could simply be time to replace your gas cap. It is 21 years old.
Could also be rusty/leaking fuel line - have a crawl under & see if they look crusty/with damp spot(s). That's free.

I’m thinking your right. Have seen now the fuel smell is only strong when the tank is full.

My 2003 Tundra had both rusted weeping fuel line & the gas cap seemed fine but a new one felt so much better it was obvious the old one was trash. That truck was 2 years younger than yours.

I'd also consider an exhaust leak. could be the smell as well as causing the 02 codes. Smoke Test or Sea Foam.

At the risk of being overkill, I’d spring the extra dough for a oem gas cap. Might wanna plan on replacing all your vacuum lines in the not so distant future.

After looking around real hard looks like there is a plug that would plug into another that goes gone to bottom of air box. It’s tapped up in inner fendee
