Is that plastic strong enough for pedals? Seems like you would be adding a failure point to a pretty important part of the truck?

I have the auto trans, so pardon the question.

Do these MT6 equipped Tacos have a CDV in them. Rev hang from heavy fly wheels and CDV’s are the devil…just saying.

heel toe for cornering or just rev matching on any down shift in general, should be the goal of every person driving a manual transmission.

Seems some here have not driven a manual in a vehicle that requires some rev matching to nail downshifts, or don't downshift aggressively, for engine braking, and are criticizing those who do.

My Jeep's 6MT doesn't 'need' it, but I can be more aggressive, quick and smooth with my downshifts (I tend to drive it "sportingly" lol). First few drives in the Taco were an adjustment, and now bouncing back and forth between jeep and taco, I do go to blip the downshifts and can't. Does the Taco need it, not really so far (I am still in breaking in period, so driving mildly), I think the throttle hang helps, but I would consider trying this out to see how it feels and if I actually do end up downshifting earlier and heel/toe'ing the truck.

As far as this being a failure point, I don't see it, there is little to no stress being put on this by the throttle pedal that I see, its a very strong material, and it sits tight to the firewall.

The CDV is there, just labeled differently on the Tacoma. It's the clutch delay valve or clutch orifice on other vehicles, it's the clutch accumulator on a Tacoma.

Rev hang on the Tacoma comes from engine management, although we do have a decently heavy flywheel I suppose. But the rev hang is more programming than anything else.

And agreed, heel toeing is not for racecar mode....it's for properly preparing into the gear you need for the turn you're making. Only the ignorant don't understand that. Rev matching in general is the proper way to downshift and should always be utilized as well as you said, otherwise it's just jerky and wears the clutch out extra fast.

I've spent more than a fair share of time over the last 30 years in manuals with everything from 4 to 18 speeds. Rev matching and up/downshift is such a way of life, literally millions of times - I don't even think about it. Including going up/down without even using the clutch (float em).

Never, not once, needed to modify a vehicle to do so via H/T. H/T simply not needed and I don't find it necessary in a Tacoma in the least to be in a proper gear for cornering.

If it did - maybe, it's just not part of "fun" for me. What I do with the truck is fun, not how I operate it.

Fair enough, I was not even going down floating gears or no clutching it road lol... and ya, so far I have not felt I needed to h/t in the Taco, all I am saying is interested to see if I would if I could...

EDIT: I am more worried about the jeep having reverse in the direct opposite direction as the Taco... it is right and back, so far I have kept it straight between the two :)

So you rev match downshift when coasting to a red light?

Nice! Did not realize someone had already worked this. @r3sistance I am 100% in for one. I've been contemplating trying to kludge one together myself, but you are far more capable than I am. Aluminum would be preferred, but if volume demand doesn't justify that, do you think you could explore a more heat stable and durable filament? Or even sell the .STL so we can farm the print out to someone with fancy industrial printers?

The AT style pedal spacing has always driven me nuts. Heel & toe isn't just for spirited driving, it's also really useful for hill starts.

Also, ITT: children who care way too much about how other people prefer to drive.

Please explain how rev matching is bad for your synchros?
Unless you are talking about clutchless shifting, which is not the same thing.

that was a quote to the 'otherwise' part of the quoted sentence. As in I am saying not rev matching is harder on the syncros.

I generally down shift before the corner without bothering to rev match. I use a similar technique on motorcycles. It hasn’t failed me yet. Rev matching is mostly for race car drivers, no? I never bothered to learn the technique.

One other situation where heel-toe might be useful is starting on a very steep grade where rolling backwards is dangerous. I’ve learned to use the hand brake technique instead.
