Thanks for the link, I have not sealed the rails yet as my fiberglass topper is still on, but I'm gonna do the tape. The front corners you're referencing are the drain holes right?

 

No, top front corners. Basically anything on top where you wont be able to seal after the camper goes on (or hard to access)

 

Anything else y'all recommend I bring to my install? I'm going to be kicking around Yellowstone for a couple days after. Thinking about a little buddy heater but unsure if they will work well in the bed with a section or left out of the tent

 

I brought a net for the roof in the downstairs to put my pillows in. Also brought some little eye's to connect to the frame and string lights. Just a few small items to mod the first night to stay organized.

 

Buddy heater will produce condensation fyi

 

we just stacked a ton of down bags in the tent, used the buddy heater to toast/de-humidify our socks before climbing up, then let the down do it's magic. The condensation is a real thing when cold weather camping though. We now bring a chamois as part of our setup to wipe things down in the morning.

 

I just purchased a diesel heater. I understand its a dry heat. We will see how it goes. I got a 2kw version

 

That's my next option, more cost and commitment, but I am a certified webasto installer so well within my wheelhouse. Have you figured out where you'll put the diesel tank?

 

Im going to build it into a pelican case, and put it on a wheel table outside of the tent. Planning on routing the ducting into the bed through the cubby above the wheel well

 

Just get a wheeled case. Be careful tho, they can get hot.

I think that might prove to be tougher, more of a hassle, than you think. I went the other route and keep the heater inside the camper and exhaust the diesel out through the cubby. You do get heater fan and pump noise inside, but I don't find it bothersome.

I found the supplied fuel container to be a pain. The geometry is simply hard to work with. I went with the one below. Fits inside the case and is mounted to a bracket that allows you to easily pull it out to add fuel. I'm not sure what the extra muffin does for you. There is nothing to vent from inside the case-except heat which has not been a problem with a passive approach. I cut a hole in front of the heater's fresh air intake port, and another below for ventilation I route control/power wires through the second hole. FWIW I have used the 2kW heater at 20F without issue. I turn it on and off as needed ( a few time a night) and burn approximately 1 L fuel a night.

Hell yea! Following along as ive always wanted to build my own. I’ve watched a few YouTube videos and have read a few reviews, but haven pulled the trigger on a Amazon heater or a harbor freight waterproof case.

 

I found stuffing 2 5L tanks in build to be the easiest.

Each tank has a shut off then they run into a T then in to the heater.

 

Does the camper still close with the mattress topper installed?

i assume there are 4 foam toppers that come with the kit and then sheets to fit each section of bedding?

 

we are having no problem closing it with the topper, it is of course a bit tighter, we purchased the overland softwood sheet set too although I think the GFC ones would also fit (albeit tighter) Yes 4 sections to place on top of the factory mattress pieces

It definitely fits but it's not as tight in the middle (halfway between the front hinge and rear latches). It looks like the aluminum bows just slightly and exposes just a bit more of the rubber weather seal. Nothing to be concerned about, but it's noticeable if you're looking. <will post photos in a bit>
