I actually looked it up , I was incorrect , it can go over some cement boards and plywood but was originally designed to go over gypsum based board (drywall)

And it looked like it should be regular drywall and not “green” drywall that’s moisture and mold resistant? Was reading about adhesion issues and it shouldn’t matter since the system is effectively making a waterproof box

Edit - I saw it could go over other boards including plywood and cement board. Drywall will be easiest for me I think

I'd guess public land. Some states are screwy about removing trees from your own property though. Something to do with erosion control, wildlife protection ect.

Public requires a permit, but I’ve got a permit to hunt and cut off of a private parcel. The rules of the permit are that I can’t fire up my saw during fire season, unfortunately, so I’m playing the waiting game and just marking decks to cut from.

Your own private property is also tricky depending where you live, though. A lot of cities in the northwest prohibit you from cutting trees of a certain size… especially in riparian zones. You have to have a very good reason if you live in a city.

When I remodeled the lower bath in my old house I ripped out the drywall, as about 6” up was completely water logged and molding in some spots due to water intrusion. I used Kerdi membrane and decided to do it with cement board. That way for whatever reason if water ever got behind the tile and Kerdi, I still had better protection than just plain old Drywall. If for whatever reason I was going to install new drywall I would at least use the green board for a few dollars more. If you’re going to spend the time to do it. You might as well do it right IMO

No chainsaw use during fire season makes sense, sort of. I've personally never seen one blow sparks out the exhaust, but it's possible. I grew up in Virginia, we could cut whatever we wanted whenever we wanted on private land.

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
    Same way in PA.

Here's the requirements for public land harvesting. This is for just one State Forest. Others may have different requirements/guidelines. We used to look for trees when we would run the roads. If we found enough trees close enough to the road we would get a permit for that road.

The cutting of trees on your own land in WA doesn't apply to rural properties. No permit needed. Similar in OR. Such restrictions are in developed areas and apply to original growth trees.

    Ask me how I know.?

My neighbor got busted where I used to live in Duvall - backyard of Redmond (Microsoft). Fine and had to.plant 3 trees I think. Another neighbor ratted his ass out.

if you do it right , no water can get behind the kerdi , thats the whole point of the product

Agreed. However I think throwing some cement board back there instead of drywall just gives a better piece of mind. How many waterproof membranes have you seen fail? Not really sure how Kerdi could possibly fail but at least around the time I did it 12 years, there wasn’t a whole lot of info on the product and seemed it was only really popular in Canada. Plus I assumed the thinset would bond better to cement board.
