Mmm GRs are definitely the last of the 'pure' ICEs. Last Hurrah.

Your next Taco will be a hybrid. PHEV if we're lucky.

That's kinda cool and all but a 500 mile range isn't much as it can't even get me to Disney. A typical passenger plane will do over 3000 miles and even a little cessna will go 700+ miles. Plus this is more of an Al Gore or John Kerry posturing kind of plane as there is no way it'll be ready to fly another trip within the 1 hour turnaround most planes have at the airports.

I don't think battery power in it's current form will work for real air travel. Someday we will hopefully have a breakthrough in energy density and then maybe but right now... even semi trucks barely work in electric form as they lose cargo capacity to carry the batteries they need to go 400 miles...

I might consider the Taco EV though looks pretty neat.

I'm sure once battery tech improves I'm sure range will improve. Same as BEV's.

The front end is the only decent thing but after that it's not so good.

Very cool use of materials to reduce weight, but it's possibly the ugliest styling I've ever seen.

If you want to see unnecessary complication rampant with EVs go find a video of the new BMW i7. Example - physical door handles both inside and outside but also paired with buttons right next to them to have motors open the door for you.

This stuff is so silly. Just because the motor is electric does not mean everything in the car needs a servo or a touch screen.

I think this is why I have such negative reactions to electric cars. There are two factors: electric cars as an alternative way to power automobiles and electric cars as the driver of so much unnecessary complication and expense in modern cars.

In the first case, electric motors come with tradeoffs versus internal combustion motors. And the environmental case is not particularly strong despite what the advocates say. But at least the instant torque of electric motors and the way electric motors enable new designs are interesting and at times exciting. The second case is just downright frustrating. Motorized everything is unnecessary and expensive. Touch screens are objectively worse to interact with while driving than physical buttons. There's no reason electric drive trains make all of the complication necessary.

Anyway, I guess this is me now:
