So I washed my truck today and was looking at it after and noticed the left side of my hood had these tiny specks of rust in it. Is this something common? I don’t remember it being there when I left the lot but I also didn’t look. I’ve done a bit of googling and saw some people using iron x. Is this something iron x would be good for or do I need to take it to the dealership? Thanks inadvance3E3EDA84-9E89-43AA-96FB-879F8D19D268.jpg B71FAFB4-5C7B-4FDE-BC4D-E1C25D0D0F4E.jpg

If you enjoy detailing give it a try. Likely you'll do a better job than the dealer, seeing as how it really should not have passed prep like that.

I'd try a clay bar. Good luck!

    Rail dust/fallout
Use an Iron Decon and then clay bar and wax the truck.

Looks like rust fallout, or as stated rail dust from transport. Iron X works great, yes, it’s super easy to use, especially compared to clay bar, I do both my (white) cars every year due to fallout.
Another option is Auto Glym Magma, both work about the same but Magma doesn’t smell quite as bad as Iron X-it really smells, do it outside in an open area.
I’ll give you a quick rundown of how to do it.
1-wash and dry truck-can have some small spots of water on it but should not be wet
2-spray on, do just the affected area or the whole thing if you want (it is ph neutral so can get on glass, lights, etc)
3-agitate/rub in with a wash mitt or whatever
    4-rinse
    5-rinse driveway and mitt
During step 2 you will see the rust spots turning purple-it will show all the rust spots, even the ones you cannot see. Afterward you are left with a shiny smooth finish.

I had this issue with another car years ago. Clay bar quickly before those particles rust even more.

Tough to tell what we’re looking at. Could you post more photos.. maybe from further away? Are those little dents? Is the truck white?

Go see the dealer first for sure - they need to know about this as soon as possible lest it get worse.

I got it out of state, should I contact the dealer I got it from or take it to a local dealer?

    Just order some deironing solution.

    Wet the vehicle.

Spray it down with deironing solution. Don't let it dry. Wash it off.

Should remove it and any other iron deposits.

Tbh you probably don't want the minimum wage detailer with no training claying it or trying to buff it off. Probably will scratch the shit out of things.

Deiron, the lightly clay after if you think it needs it.

Should cost you 20$ to do.

I had rusty spots on my white Tacoma too. They were concentrated around spot welds on the truck bed area. The dealer told me it was rail dust and they removed it. It came back really quickly and after that I just ignored it. The spots that I've seen on large surfaces come off with clay bar. The ones on the spot welds are hard to get to so I gave up.
My paint is peeling around one of my windows and on my fender, so at this point I just gave up with trying to get dealers or Toyota to own up to anything lol. I've posted about this before on this forum.

I actually have a fun idea. I'm going to get a custom wrap job done on my door where the paint is peeling. It will have text on it, saying something like "Toyota quality" with big arrows all pointing up at the peeling paint. I will be a driving commercial.

It's under warranty with Toyota. Take it to your local dealer asap.
