I agree. The Tundra is ugly.

And there is no replacement for displacement. Turbos are great for low end torque, but they increase the temperature and pressure inside the engine. I definitely wouldn’t buy one from the first year of production. The Tundra is having issues as most first year models do.

The CAFE regulations are driving the transition to smaller displacement turbocharged engines. And sometimes they are better. But for the most part, you have to drive them like a grandma to get good mileage. Look at the Ford eco boost engines. You either get eco or boost, not both. The new Bronco 4 cylinder gets terrible mileage, although part of that is because it’s shaped like a brick.

My 300zx twin turbo was fun to drive. But I’ve enjoyed the naturally aspirated 4 cylinder in my Miata more even though it’s way down on power.

i do wish Toyota had used the 4L v6 in the Tacoma and not the Atkinson cycle 3.5L.

You can always add a supercharger or turbo charger to a Tacoma V6.

For me, the reason I’m not waiting on the new generation is I’m pretty confident there will not be a manual transmission option in the next generation. And I’m worried they’re going to make it ugly like the Tundra.

I didn't know Toyota had perfected their Flux-Capacitor yet.

How would this be known and what does it mean, exactly?

    Thanks.

I am just speculating and hoping. @Carmaker1 is an industry insider with info about the 4th gen. Check this thread for posts of his.

Yea I'm happy with my 4.0L and glad I swooped one up before vehicle prices went crazy. There's a reason Toyota still uses this motor in the Land Cruiser 70 & Hilux.

    None yet. :)
The 3.5 in my TRD OR is perfectly adequate. The benefit (and I strongly suspect this is true of the whole 4th gen) is that it is inherently simple. I'll bet the new one isn't anywhere near as easy to work on.

The 1GR-FE is reliable but it is a quirky son-of-a-gun. I had to play around with different octanes to get an inexplicable knock under control. And it likes to make noises. It's always coming up with a new noise. But it starts every time and goes "vroom" when I tell it to.

    Regarding the TNGA-F frame:

Will it benefit the vehicle in any way, or will its benefits be limited to Toyota in the form of corporate-wide cost reduction?

    Thanks.

They are supposed to be a bit more rigid I believe. I have a 23 a Tundra ordered..But I just bought my pro so not sure if I will take it when it comes in. I drove a 22 trd sport which is what I have ordered. It was a nice drive for sure but I am really enjoying the Tacoma I just picked up...

I guess a stiffer frame improves corner handling?

I believe they are going to coils in the rear to account for the stiffer frame.

I'm hoping that the Gen 4 is a nice riding truck. The roads around me are absolutely horrible and I now consider a vehicles suspension to be quite important.

Another thing I hope gets changed is the seating position. I just had to add the desert does it rear driver seat jacks to get a more comfy ride for my back

Given the completely new platform, I would expect the entire cab space to be very different. Distances and angles for hip height & angle, leg room, width, all of it.
