They're built in Mexico, just over the border and east of Tijuana. The Burlington Northern Santa Fe train has a major operation in San Diego. Looking at the factory site in Google Earth / Google Maps, there aren't any rails near the facility. I don't know for sure, but I suspect they're carted from the factory to San Diego on a semi, then put on the train there. Below are some Google Earth shots of the factory and a map of the Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) rails.

    A link to the map.

@mtbparker, there are rail lines roughly 30 miles (by the roads) west of the factory; those rail lines do head north directly into the BNSF rail ramp. Whether Toyota trucks the Tacomas to the closer ramp or over the border to San Diego is a question I cannot speak to.

I got an odometer reading and tire pressures in the app today! After weeks of showing "N/A" or "No Data" in those fields. The coolest thing was this morning the gas tank showed empty and this afternoon it shows full. Somebody activated the truck and gave me a full tank of gas. Should get the phone call from the dealer soon. I'm hoping it's this weekend.

I just got my permanent VIN! So excited,
@Rod03 Can you please check the status of my truck? I'm praying it's almost here.
My friend sent you a double for me last time you helped him :)

Could well be. I don't know for sure either. This is just the "virtual recon" I did a month ago as I tried to make sense of what Ron tells us. That map was a big help to me.

Are dealers in general starting to have more vehicles on their lots?

Is it possible to test drive yet?

    Thanks.

Test drives have been available on a limited basis all along; when I started shopping late last year I called around to various dealerships to find out which ones had a vehicle to drive.

Put in a deposit 8/14/22 for a TRD Pro. Said I wanted grey but would take any color and any transmission. Was told I was #1 in line. Kind of surprising given the size of the dealer.

Anyway- the salesman who took the order was apparently not great as his job and the salesman who took over told me he "left to pursue other ventures" which is a shame because he was a pleasant guy to talk to. But then I had to go through the whole process again, had to remind him that I already put a refundable deposit down, had already signed papers, bla bla bla. So this happened on 9/17/22, which seems like the real date even though it's not.

We're in the process of moving about 100 miles, and I was mildly annoyed at the hoops I jumped through to convince a dealer that I did in fact have money down on a truck, so I called the dealer closer to where I'm moving, and talked to one of the nicest general managers ever. She did some digging and said, "Well it looks like they have 2 allocated to them, so you should stick with them- if you're really first in line I'd imagine you should get their grey one. Call me if they give you a hassle, but you'd be #5 here and we have no allocations so far." By the time I hung up the phone, my dealer had actually emailed me saying a grey one was allocated, but it had running boards and door edge guards- two things I definitely don't want and don't want to pay for. They agreed to attempt to have them removed but couldn't absolutely promise. (Who wants to wager how that will turn out?). Anyway... as of 10/6/22 I have my name on a grey Pro, to be built on 11/7/22. He said it's been averaging 4-6 weeks from built to delivery; we shall see. If it ends up coming with the running boards they will come off immediately and be put up for sale CHEAP so if anyone is interested let me know.

Anyone else looking for one, it appears they have a white one as well that wasn't spoken for as of yesterday.

Here's my weekly update from my dealer. Might be useful data point for others. I ordered my SR5 Aug. 1, 2022. Truck on rail, last week sighted in KS, (see previous post), now sighted in PA (see attachment). My dealership is in PA. BTW, the dealer from day 1 indicated a mid Oct. 2022 delivery which I found unusual given the posts in this forum and known supply chain conditions. Given progress, seems to be coming true.

Needless to say, I'll continue to update.

Can't complain about that timeline if it comes through. I just passed 6 months and still no allocation on a at msrp pro.

Yeah I'm happy about it. Unless there's a production delay or transportation hassle I imagine it won't be too long. Send me a message if you want to chat with them about the possible white Pro or getting in line for another one.

*Delivered! My Sport DCSB LR was scheduled to arrive 10/8-13 but came early yesterday and I picked it up through Divino Toyota. They were awesome and honored the Costco deal. No complaints and would totally recommend them to anyone in the Salt Lake area.

Well this is a good news/bad news situation. My truck is at the dealership, but I can't take delivery on it until next week because my salesman is on vacation! :annoyed:He gets back on Monday. Apparently he has to fill out all the paperwork for inspection and final prep.

Anyway, these stats may not be helpful to those who are ordering a vehicle, but I put my deposit down on Sept. 7 and the truck arrived at the dealership yesterday. It was a Tacoma they had on allocation but had not yet been claimed, probably because it was a MT.

I'm worried that they might send it out on test drives over the weekend, but the lady I spoke to at the dealership (not my salesman, since he's out on vacation) said they wouldn't do that. I got worried because I saw the odometer reading in the app change from 2 to 5 mi, but that could have been the truck being moved around or whatever.

Contact the manager, or the owner. Sounds like the salesman wasn't doing their job. They had to know what vehicles were expected to arrive during their vacation. If they didn't have someone to cover them then thats poor planning or poor management. If the later you may have difficulty. I'd have the exact same concerns. Their poor planning or policy shock never be the customers problem.

How do you see stats on your vehicle? Mine was built already and received the permanent VIN (also an allocation story like yours) but I haven’t been told how to track it.

I sent the salesman a friendly text letting him know that the truck has arrived and I was told that I had to wait for him to get back. He did know the truck could arrive in his absence because when I texted him for an update last week that's when he told me he was on vacation, but if my truck got there when he was gone the dealership would call me. As it stands, the dealership didn't call me, I called them but the truck had only been there 24 hours so that's not unexpected. He may have made provisions prior to leaving on vacation, so I'm giving him an opportunity to get back to me about that. Tomorrow I'll call and talk to the manager. I'm sure the manager can handle any paperwork that needs to be done.

Get the Toyota app on your phone and enter your permanent VIN. You have to sign up for the trial services that let you communicate with the truck, which starts the clock on your 12 free months. But when you take delivery on your truck you can call them, and they'll add more time so you get the full 12 months during actual ownership. Also keep in mind that until your truck hits the logistics park you will have NO updates at all, and it will say "Odometer: N/A" and "Vehicle Status: no data." When you get an odometer reading you'll also get a gas gauge, which is pretty cool because in the morning the gauge was empty and by the afternoon it was full so I know approximately when they actually put gas in the tank. Based on other posts I've seen, once the data starts coming to your app it's not more than a few days until your truck hits the dealership. In my case it was only one day. It will take all your self-control to not check the app several times a day! In my case I knew my delivery window was first two weeks in October, so as of last week I was checking it more frequently.

Been getting a ton of door notifications today, not sure if they pin pointed the delivery date yet. @Rod03 3TYCZ5AN5NT102493. This should hopefully be my last time asking lol. As always appreciate your help and will be sending some more beer/diapers your way again!
