TRD 17” Wheels Question

Hi all,

I have a 22 TRD Sport access cab and I’m looking into swapping the stock wheels for the black 17” TRD wheels part#

$279 PTR2035110BK Toyota 2010-2024 4runner TRD 17" Matte Black Wheel PTR20-35110-BK

PTR2035110BK.

So my question is, can I just swap the wheels and keep the stock tires? Will they fit?

I called the dealer a few days ago, and they couldn’t give me an answer for that.

Any help will be appreciated. If you have that setup please post a pic so I can see what they look like w/ the stock tires.

It boggles my mind that your Toyota dealer couldn’t answer that question. But then again having owned several Tacomas , it doesnt.

I think (I could be wrong) the main reason dealerships do/say that is:

1) They don't want customers to try hold them liable for giving them advice or direction on how to modify/change their truck. If it didn't work, I know some mouth breathing idiot would file a lawsuit saying "My dealer told me that if I installed 40 inch tires on my truck that I wouldn't lose MPG's!"

2) Most people at the dealership are in sales/finance. They only care about selling you a truck. They don't give a shit about anything after that, unless you're buying something from them. Even then, they care very little.

 

A Toyota dealership has at least two separate divisions , sales and service.
I’m assuming when OP says “the dealer” , he means the service department, who absolutely should know.
If he was speaking to someone in sales, well they should have told him to contact the service department. They should be able to confirm fitment of a Toyota product, on a Toyota vehicle . That’s literally part of the scope of their job. If they don’t know on the spot, they can say that and either figure it out, or forward the question to someone who does know.

As far as the ‘fear of a lawsuit’ idea, Ive had several instances of improper/wrong info given to me by the service department. They do it all the time.

My guess is that he was talking to the actual service department, not sales-finance.

 

I know the service dept at my local dealership ALWAYS tries to sell me something for my truck that I do not need or want. Always. Sometimes I think they're more salesmen, then the actual car-salesmen!

 

I JUST did this yesterday after work, and even stepped up to a 265/70/17 tire from a 265/65. Went with a 17x8 +5mm offset, and everything fits perfectly fine with no rubbing. Posted pics last night on the "what have you done today..." thread.

 

Yeah… I’ve contacted 3 of my local Toyota dealers “parts department” and all 3 of them didn’t have the answer. They seemed confused and unwilling to help.

After getting the answers here I’ve contacted the Dealer where I purchased the Tacoma, which by the way is about 80 miles from here. The parts dept. guy over there straight up told me they would fit and they also have them in stock. Now I just need to find the time and take the drive.
