Wow, that view's amazing! I'm ready to ditch the desert/cacti and move to the pines near or on the lake myself. :tumbleweed:

Proper method for dealing with this in the bathroom, besides the exhaust fan I'll be installing?

    move out of the pnw?

Lol just kidding. Are you sure the source of the water is humidity in the bathroom? It seems a lil strange it would be confined to one particular corner. Maybe there’s a cold spot there that causes condensation?
If humidity is in fact the problem and you can’t find any point source of water intrusion then a fan should help. I would hook it up to a humidity sending switch like this one:
Leviton IPHS5-1LW Decora In-Wall Humidity Sensor & Fan Control , 3A, Single Pole, White https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00H3QQD64

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
Second the bleach but not full strength. Cut it down to 10%

It actually trails the length of the wall, maybe 5 feet, over the window. But only in the wall/ceiling crease. The pic is the worst of it where it's starting to come downward.

Bookmarked the switch for when I get around to it.

Two votes for bleach. And maybe some killz to cover up the drywall stain it leaves behind.

So it’s an exterior wall huh

Is the mold a strictly a surface thing or are there soft spots in the most heavily affected areas?

are you certain that is from moisture inside and not exterior bulk water getting in to that wall at the ceiling ?

That’s what I was getting at lol
He stated the affected area runs the length of the wall/ceiling interface on an exterior wall

seems coincidental and oddly localized for a humidity thing

Or poor insulation and that’s where the warm moist air is hitting a cold surface

    Yes, exterior wall.

No soft spots that I noticed. But will indirect more closely tomorrow.

We haven't had rain for months (which is freakin annoying for october). Not sure where moisture would be coming from if not for the shower.

Would that be poor insulation in the wall or attic space? My guess would be either.

That could be it too, again as I mentioned above lol
However we’re just now coming out of summer….the cold side of the building envelope should have been inside while this water/mold was accumulating thus any missing insulation would lead to a warm spot not a cold spot

Could be either. You’d have to investigate.

I realize it’s been summer, but mold growth like that usually doesn’t just form overnight. Obviously could be a number of different causes. I’m just throwing out a possibility that maybe would of been overlooked. He’s gonna have to look around and find the exact source.

    True true
I kinda ruled out the cold spot theory because I didn’t think he would stare at that mess for 4 months without dealing with it lol
Not judging you @Denk I'm a married man who would have been henpecked to death about the issue

Even if you haven't had rain for months, your insulation and drywall can hang onto that moisture like a cactus.

Not home improvement for me but helping out my brother in law clean out his parents barn. His father built it in 1970. He used telephone polls for the main structure. What I found funny was how he supported the main beam down the middle. Had to be about a 40’ pole.
