Sorry about that hit man. We all have hit deer in our days some hard and some not so. Your insurance should pay for a rental till it is fixed. Good luck and hope the insurance is good to you.

I totaled my Subie two years ago on a 6 point with the cruise set on 74. It happened so fast it was the classic brake upon impact. We all walked away without a scratch. Glad to hear the Tacoma took good care of you. I run deer whistles on my vehicles now.

Major bummer. When you do get it fixed, are you thinking of putting a bull bar or aftermarket steel bumper on it in case it happens again?

That sucks OP but you're alright and that's what matters. The truck can be replaced.

Yeah the HRV is ours plus I have a 2001 Wrangler w/6" lift, locked front and rear and a Poison Spyder Bull bar front bumper, which would have been nice to have on the Tacoma. Shoot the Jeep would have just rolled right over the darn deer.

Man I was so mad at the time the last thing I wanted was the deer that just destroyed my new truck. Looking back I wish I had kept it but hey hindsight and all that.

That was freaking UGLY! Jeez it just peeled back the entire front end body panels. From the lokk of the wreck the Tacoma took care of your buddy pretty good. Hope he came out ok.

Deer was dead within a minute or so. I was cruising at 65, saw him, hollered "F*c*" as I stomped the brakes and BAM it was over. My tire marks were roughly 8 feet long where I stomped the brakes before impact so I had to still be traveling pretty darn fast at impact

LOL, I had been debating putting on one of the smaller center section hybrid bumpers with bull bar and a hidden winch when this happened. It wouldnt have stopped all that damage but it would have helped im sure. Now im trying to figure out which bumper im going to buy. My biggest thing is I dont wanna have to cut on the truck for a aftermarket bumper

Truck actually handled that well for a deer that big. Sorry about your misfortune, though. It always hurts, whether it's a scratch or something like this.

Looking at the pics now, knowing how fast I was going and how big the deer was im surprised theres not more damage. He was a big young buck with a small rack and now im wishing I had gotten a pic of him. He was the kind you see from your stand but let pass in the hope that you see him in a few years as a big beautiful trophy buck

Yeah I can see the resemblance. Maybe its the missing tooth

Wellllllllll that sucks man. Glad you are ok.
I had the same thing happen in Florida on vacation in our van. Van is still in the body shop waiting on a HID igniter, and wiring harness. That happened in mid July. Rental insurance is only 30 days. I have 9 people in my house soooooooo paying out the wazoo for a rental van.

I highly highly recommend if you have geico insurance you drop them as the adjusters are absolutely incompetent, and the policy does will not move the vehicle if you are on vacation, they will send the vehicle to shops that are not authorized to repair it, and order parts that are not actually for the vehicle that they have the vin number for.

    Sorry for the rant.

    Screw Geico. They suck.

    He's lucky he's not dead.

OP, glad you aren't hurt. Truck is repairable. The guy that stopped had a good day getting a deer without having to hunt.

A friend hit a deer in Colorado a few years back. He had a Dakota pick up and was able to keep the deer. When someone asked him what he took the deer with, he said a 318 Dakota that he had developed himself.

Naw im not with Geico, Progressive is who I use. They do pretty good. In 2019 my son hit a deer in his 2019 Honda Insight that cost them over 6k. Then in 2021 he hit another, same car, that cost over 12k. Now here I am in 2022 with a 2022 Taco thats gonna cost who knows how much. Damn I bet Progressive is about tired of my family. On the bright side the last claim before that was way back in 2009 and the other persons insurance paid then.

Totally blows, but you’re OK. Your baby did what it had to, in order to get you home safe. And before too long, the “Deer Slayer” will be back.
