Today I installed "The Weather Station" in the bed we use as a sleeping platform. Just a digital fish tank thermometer with the sensor routed down to the frame

    upload_2022-10-8_20-35-46.jpg

I also installed my 50W solar panel that I had on my last Tacoma.
    upload_2022-10-8_20-40-30.jpg

This uses a low profile panel that is on a 1/8" aluminum sheet
    upload_2022-10-8_20-40-57.jpg

I use self adhesive magnetic tape on the back.

    upload_2022-10-8_20-42-47.jpg
    upload_2022-10-8_20-43-52.jpg

So it is very easy to add/remove when needed.

On my last Tacoma, I mounted the charge controller on top of the OEM fuse box lid.
    upload_2022-10-8_20-44-20.jpg

This time I mounted in on top of the battery. I also added a sheet of ABS plastic over the aluminum plate that holds down the battery. That aluminum plate made the positive battery terminal dangerous to work on.
    upload_2022-10-8_20-44-48.jpg

I think this is a nice improvement over my last Taco

You'll also need the ground cable and compression lug. That's another $35-$40. I haven't seen any other terminals as nice as those ones though.

I've had mine installed since I bought the truck new in December 2016. No issues. The brand is PcProfessional from Amazon. I don't think there's much difference between different ones on amazon.

Yes. Particularly bending the metal out of the way. I thought my channel locks were large enough to make quick work of it but I was wrong

Predator steps look good and are fine for on-road and light off-road use. They are weak for heavy duty off-road use. I cannot count how many I have seen broken on this site from rough off-road use. Here are some quotes from others:
"Welcome to TW! If you plan on offroading ditch the tubes, avoid the Predator steps, and get some sliders."
"I had the Predators, while functional, they didn't hold up to the first decent sized rock I hit on a forest road. The step weld broke."
"Lmao if he wants one step. I still have the bars but 3 steps broke off at flat nasty."
"I goofed up and snapped one of my driver side steps off"
"Drove over a rock on the beach and heard a quiet 'tink' that sounded similar to a stick breaking."

i did a drain and fill with Idemitsu fluid. The service manual says only 1.6 quarts drains with the 2.7L engine but i got about 2.4 quarts to drain. it's incredible how much better it shifts just from one drain and fill. my truck only has 15,000 miles too. fluid looked okay but definitely had a brown tint to the fluid and not bright red like new fluid. the whole truck feels smoother, especially downshifting coming to a stop.

and, of course, i cut my hand again on the dang heatshield next to the fill port.

Made this recording of a squeak that is coming from rear Leaf. Just noticed this last weekend and it is SO annoying. Squeaks when I accelerate, brake, go over bumps, let foot off the gas, you name it.

Can someone give me the high level how to remove just this one link, get-er-lubed up, and back together? Hoping to get this done in the next hour. TIA

No need to remove. I just spray the bushings and in between the leafs with this stuff…
    https://www.homedepot.com/p/Blaster...c-Multi-Use-Lubricant-Spray-MM-TS-B/311274982
Sometimes dirt gets between the leafs and in the bushings making it sound like the Sanford and Son truck.
