    And that is where?

From Idaho looks to be a bit of drive, er tow to get the balljoints re-torqued. :p

Hopefully you have someone in your house that you can sit while they knock it out in your driveway.

That’s the one in Denver. There’s also been a lot of service performed at home where you get to choose where at in your house you want to sit and drink your coffee. I wouldn’t buy a Rivian if I lived in Idaho or somewhere equally far from a service center, too much hassle to deal with any problems stemming from a brand new product and manufacturer.

Still kinda bullshit for a $100K vehicle. Kinda liked them…but after seeing them in the wild and their limitations, they are loosing their shine for me. Think that comes from going to bunch motorcycling events recently seeing so many different rigs and what other options are out there for about the same money.

During my 1500 mile round trip towing a trailer, kept on thinking it would be a major pain in the ass trying to do it in a Rivian, and costing a premium while doing it. Machines are supposed to make our lives easier. They work for us, not the other way around.

Yeah we have 3 Toyota dealerships all within 30 minutes, the one is only 15 minutes. Plus I like to walk the lot and kicking tires.

Sorry, it’s BYO blowjob but that’s the reality. Are you honestly bitching that it is inconvenient for you to have your vehicle serviced in your own driveway?

Have you considered that an EV isn’t for you until the price comes down or the infrastructure improves?

If someone was captivated by the styling of the R1T and R1S, and wasn't really in it for the EV feature. I doubt if there is anyone in that category. The Ram 1500, especially the Rebel with the black flares. The new Grand Cherokee, and Wagoneer. Do not look that much different than what Rivian builds.

So a Maynard James Keenan….well shoot if I was that flexible, prolly never leave the house. lol!

I am with Toyota on the whole EV thing, just not ready for prime time just yet. All they are is a novelty at this time and juncture. https://www.hotcars.com/heres-why-toyota-isnt-convinced-evs-are-the-future/. Nothing more than a “look at me how I am saving the planet vehicle by spending an exorbitant amount of money” they really aren’t saving the planet, but hey…heard those smug fucks like to smell their own farts…

    M
y truck is one year old, already just shy of 20K miles, like to take a lot of trips…EV just won’t work where I like to go. Or make it such a hassle the trip won’t be enjoyable.

VW/IH still wants to build their GMC Hummer sized Scout. That sounds like the stupidest thing VW could do today.

They probably want a platform that can compete in the fullsize truck market, that market is saturated by the domestics and Toyota. Right now VW dealers are overloaded with SUVs, and I doubt the reason they are not selling is because they are gasers.

The new Dodges Rams or whatever they are calling them now aren’t bad looking, however could never bring myself to own one of their products. I rack up the miles quick, so out of warranty fast under my thumb. My old Toyotas went the distance, doubtful Ram would go as long, unwilling to use my money taking that chance.

Nice thing with Ram is the factory extended warranties are fairly cheap. A 8yr/100k mile full bumper to bumper warranty is right around $2200 for a 1500 and works at any dealership in the country. A huge advantage over Tesla, Rivian and the other small EV companies trying to get their feet in the door.

Bought an extended 6 year/120K for the Tacoma.

Looked hard at the EcoDiesel, seems like better fit for all the traveling I do. Love to cruise at the speed limit rolling 1500 rpm sort of thing. Didn’t trust the emissions equipment to go long term without a major repair. Almost bought a Sprinter, that is even a better fit for hauling dirt bikes…but again, that DEF system is a costly repair, among most other things with Mercedes. Client of mine is a dealer, one of their SUVs trans costs $20K to fix. Hell that is half of a brand new Tacoma which I never had a trans go out in any of my Toyotas.

So the entire electric car purchasing, dealership, service model is based on the fallacy that the electric components probably won’t break and if something happens, some guy can drive by your house and do a software update.

They are ignoring the fact that all of the mechanical components, the air conditioning, brakes, power steering, suspension, drivetrain, interior materials, etc. will never break.

Electrical cars still have literally every component internal combustion cars do except for the actual engine and fuel system.

They even have radiators and some additional components like heating systems for the battery packs.

Truth is, if you buy an electric car without a dealer nearby, you’re in for a nightmare.

And I’m surprised this is such a big deal, Teslas are always breaking and parts are literally flying off of them due to their abysmal production standards.

It’s one thing to get techs to tighten a bolt or replace a tonneau cover at your house but what about if your wheel breaks off while driving or some other major work? Are they really going to do that work on jack stands in your driveway? Assuming you even have a suitable flat spot to work.

Nope, you’re going to get it towed to a shop just like any other vehicle. If you live far away from a service center/dealership then it might not be a good idea to buy the vehicle regardless of brand.

Well Rivian only has around 20 service centers in the entire country. That leaves out an awful lot of potential customers.

There is no service center in Portland (yet) but they aren’t having any issues selling to people here.

What if you live 10 hours away from a service center? Is Rivian sending out techs by van or plane to do the recall work? Does the tech grab his torque wrench and hop on a plane to Wyoming to tighten two bolts?

You're not sincerely suggesting Portland as an example of common sense and logic are you?
