I highly doubt Cali is gonna go through with the ban. Most of the politicians who passed the bill will not be there to answer for it. So things can easily change

    Here's California's law

    https://ww2.arb.ca.gov/news/california-moves-accelerate-100-new-zero-emission-vehicle-sales-2035

    Eligibility and Credits

The regulation applies to automakers (not dealers) and covers only new vehicle sales. It does not impact existing vehicles on the road today, which will still be legal to own and drive.

Plug-in hybrid, full battery-electric and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles count toward an automaker’s requirement. PHEVs must have an all-electric range of at least 50 miles under real-world driving conditions. In addition, automakers will be allowed to meet no more than 20% of their overall ZEV requirement with PHEVs.

Battery-electric and fuel cell vehicles will need a minimum range of 150 miles to qualify under the program, include fast-charging ability and come equipped with a charging cord to facilitate charging, and meet new warranty and durability requirements.

I wanna point out that if you read the announcement on the ca gov website, this is not some thing our governor thought up on his own, but is actually going along with Eurozone countries who have made similar pledges.

I'm aware. It's easy to make promises for people in the future to fulfill. Cali will need a new electrical infrastructure and millions of chargers to meet the needs. Let's see how that goes first

That’s how it is most places right now. All the major interstates and highways are easy, backroads will require creativity and slow charge times.

Exactly, but I would caution against using the term "easy." I was on I40 recently in the mountains of Arizona, and parked my rig near the EV chargers. It was mostly telsas there. It looked full and there was maybe 5 cars charging. The all were there when I arrived and when I left, which as a decent amount of time. I ate, walked the dogs, etc. Right then I imagined all the full gas stations, gas stations that you can barely squeeze into because there's so many people trying to full up. And it only takes a moment to fill. Imagine hundreds of millions of EVs on the road. Thousands of people trying to charge in one small town. It's gonna take way more, way more chargers than it does gas pumps.

That’s how it is in Lost Hills.

I pulled off I-5, bought gas, ate something, went to the bathroom, all in less than 15 minutes and all the EVs were there before I arrived and none of them had left by the time I pulled back on the highway.

I guess if you have an electric car you could walk off and do some stuff, but everyone seems afraid to abandon their EV while it’s charging.

Our kids, kids, kids may see this, but not us. And by then it may take 5 min to get full charge and 1000 miles range.

You’re right because that isn’t what I said. To summarize what I said, that when people in an EV want to cover a lot of miles they don’t take the backroads unless they are trying to avoid congestion.

Also let’s have real talk here…
314 advertised range only comes with the minivan tires …

but you can never charge to 100%. Why? Because 1. It causes premature battery wear and 2. It takes forever.

0-80% already takes a god awful 45min in the back of a shitty Walmart … and 80-100% takes another 45 min… also who takes their car down to 0% ?! No one … so the real
World battery range is 60% of the advertised range …
20% left and charged up to 80%

188 miles … if you don’t get the AT … which reduce the range by another 40 miles.

If you’re driving long distance it’s best/fastest to run down to close to 0% and then charge until about 80%. The only time you’d need to do that is on long distance trips, normal daily life none of the range factors are a concern. Anyone buying an EV should know that a long drive is going to involve a 30-45 minute stop every 2-3 hours or so and it doesn’t come as a surprise.

Based on real world highway testing and 80%-20% discharge the 22” wheels will give 173 miles, the 21” 180 miles and the 20” 161 miles.

That's the words you used. Sounds like a dodge, but it's a bit of a word salad so I'll accept your summary as what you meant to say

I accept that you didn’t read them the first time before you replied.

You omitted the part where I said “Interstate with DC fast charging.” The following statement about trying to cover distance in an EV and ICE vehicle being the same, where you don’t use backroads unless you are trying to avoid congestion, is referencing using the interstates to cover distances.

I rarely drive the interstate, most is done on Bi-Ways, whole thing about traveling is to take the roads less traveled. Looked at Plug Share, while yes there are charging stations along the way. Would add a lot of time to a trip.

This is the stuff a like to drive, whole lot of nothing.

Why would I respond to something I haven't read? That makes no sense. All of your arguments for EVs lose credibility when half of what you say is trivial comebacks targeted at people rather than their ideas. You're own sentence contradicts your point.

"When you are trying to cover distance in an EV you drive the same routes you’d drive in an ICE vehicle and those don’t include the backroads unless you are trying to avoid congestion."

This is exactly the same as saying:

"When you travel in an EV you use the same routes. You will not need back roads unless you are trying to avoid congestion." This is false.

You’re skipping the part about “trying to cover distance” and the use of “interstates” on my specific journey that you asked about.

Ouch… so a 20 hour bomb runs turn into 24.5-27.5, yeah?
