No, he got a pass. I know there’s bigger bucks in the area.

 

My best hunting usually starts around the 3rd week of Oct then the big ones show up.

 

He is a big one for my area...

 

I know, that’s why people from your area and everywhere else come here to hunt. There’s 4 guys from Pennsylvania that come every year and hunt on a farm that borders mine.

 

Is it true some leases in your area forbid shooting anything under a 120 and if you do there is a penalty to pay? Had a coworker from the university used to belong to a lease, wasn't cheap. I am thinking it was $800 just in licenses. Now this was probably 10 years ago.

 

Some outfitters will fine you extra money if you shoot anything under 130-140. Leases around here go for 25-50 per acre. As for non-resident permit and licenses ask @StayinStock he knows.

 

I've had that TC .45 Hawken for 38 years. Got it used and it was the stuff back in the '80s. Refinished it a couple years back

Also restored my old Rem 700 .243 a couple years ago. Got it for Christmas at 16 and was my only deer rifle for about 30 years. Have killed my biggest deer with that little caliber gun.


This ain't Illinois but we get a big deer occasionally, relatively speaking. These days I shoot what makes me happy and for me the fun is in how it's done.

 

I 100% agree with you, shoot what makes you happy. If you’re a meat hunter then if it’s brown it’s down but if you’re after a big buck like me then you’re going to have to let a lot of deer walk by. The only guys that really gripe my ass is the 4 or 5 guys hunting together then bitch because they don’t see any big bucks and when you ask them what did you kill last year and they say something like 3- 6 pointers and a basket rack 8…Well Duh!!

Non resident license are $410 for a combo permit (one either sex deer + one anterless deer)
Plus $50 non-res hunting license
Plus $5 habitat stamp
After all that, you can purchase as many antlerless tags as a person is willing to buy for $25 each.

Getting the stand ready for early muzzleloader in a couple weeks. Beans have been cut and clover is planted.

Long shot, but does anyone have experience with the Stockys VG2 stock by chance? Mainly wondering if the "texture" in the olive green or tan webbing colors is truly a "60 grit" feel like the youtubers say. I like texture, just not on the cheek piece I suppose.

Only asking because those are the only colors not on backorder, and coincidentally I want the olive green.
