Anyone running an 8' awning on their 3rd gen by chance? I saved mine from my previous 2014, but I'm debating if I should sell it and downsize. It's the one from Napa that I believe is now discontinued. I still need to purchase a bed rack at least if I want to keep this one. (Including a pic for reference) I loved the size and I don't know if the 4' would feel too small after having this one.

Is your 3rd gen the same configuration as your 2014? Access Cab and looks like a 6’ bed? Big awnings are awesome, but for me with a DBSB it is really hard to do well. My 6.5’ ROAM on my RSI SmartCap is about as big as I could go even though I wanted larger.

Nope. My SR5 has the 5’ bed. So I’d have to get a cap or bed rack to make my current awning work. Maybe I’m spoiled with the large awning, but the smaller ones just don’t quite do it for me.

I've got a 6.5' awning on my 17 DBLB and honestly wish I had an 8' to cover the rear door, just not sure it would be as pleasing to the eye.

Can anyone comment on setting up one of these one side only awnings solo? I watched a Roam video and they said it helps to have help. Curious how hard to do alone. I'm thinking of getting a 5' or maybe 6.5' Roam to mount on the rack on my shell. Thanks.

    Hey Jim,

Wife has the CVT one, I'm guessing yours is the same. It's a little tricky, especially in wind, and if you don't want to fuck up your paint. Where in northern Colorado are you? We could meet for I beer and work out a technique based on your selection and truck.

But the last step is putting out the legs at the end. You want it basically assembled by the time you raise the outer legs. It's also handy if you pre stake the bottoms before you unfold the last step

I'm not sure what the CVT reference is, but I'd be mounting on a Sherpa rack on my shell. I don't have an awning yet. Just trying to decide if I want one and how much of a hassle it could be as I pretty much only solo camp. I'm in Fort Collins.

CVT makes awnings... they are relatively easy to install and operate alone. But I got your back if you want any local help getting it all set up and easy to do alone. She deploys hers all the time alone. It's not as bad as it seems once you do it a few times

You solved it. Well done. You just needed a little TW support.

Thanks. One more question. What size CVT do you have? I was thinking 6.5' but seems a bit long and would extend over the rear door and the back end depending on where exactly it's placed. Might be fine, but 5' would be a better fit but obviously less shade.

Curious if anyone has had any issues mounting an awning straight to the side of a prinsu rather than using mounts. A spacer would be needed to clear the bolt heads which is easy enough. But it would be far easier to no use the mounts as they would interfere with my roof boxes.
