Comparing pre order pricing is like comparing it with Tacoma pricing from 2019. That’s not a reality in todays market. Also anyone who can afford a rivian doesn’t get tax credits anymore

The Tesla Supercharger network opening up to other manufacturers is still supposed to happen. I’ve seen a lot of talk that the V4 Superchargers will incorporate CCS for this specific capability.

In regards to range, where you able to get any info out of the Rivian rep about the actual range of the Max Pack?

California still offers tax credits and we’re eligible. I’m retired and can afford a Rivian, with money saved keeping my Tacoma mostly stock :):).

I can afford one and am well under the income limit to qualify for the federal tax credit. There are 60k ish pre-orders that qualify for the original pricing scheme which equates to a ~$70k truck after the federal tax credit.

The Supercharger network is open in Europe, as I understand it, but my understanding is that here only the non-Supercharger chargers, with adapter, can be used on the Rivian. But it’s changing, that’s true. On the other hand, with the Model Y and Model 3 now being the #1 and #2 selling cars here in California, access to Superchargers may not be that great. California currently has four Rivian-only DC fast cahrging stations, including ones in Bishop and Inyokern which is convenient.

The guy who hosted my test drive was pretty open about problems and availability, and he was pretty clear that the Max Pack would be a long wait. The demo truck that I drove had the standard 21” all season tires which enable the official 314 mile range. The truck was sitting at about 54% capacity and 154 miles remaining. Switching to Conserve mode that went up to about 60% and 165 miles. Considering the host encouraged us to try Sport mode and sample the acceleration, and assuming that was done by all testers, I think the range numbers seemed to match spec.

Any pre-order holder still pays the original price they configured the truck as, new tax laws have nothing to do with that. Any pre-order holder who signed a binding purchase agreement that Rivian offered in early August qualifies under the previous tax credit program.

Good for you, I’m not and neither is anyone else who is currently looking into one and or comparing it to other vehicles.

True about the access to Superchargers. Tesla is planning some very large stations in California and Oregon, that I have been following, to ease this pain.

    https://electrek.co/2022/05/19/tesla-building-new-worlds-largest-supercharger-station-mojave-desert/
    https://www.opb.org/article/2022/07/02/sutherlin-oregon-tesla-charging-station-2023/

It would make sense to do the same across the country.

Fair enough. If you place an order now there are a couple configurations that get you below the $80k price and still qualify for the current tax credit. Who knows when that would be delivered though and what the tax situation would be at that time.

I'd love to get into a Rivian pre increase + $7500 credit. It actually makes a decent proposition at that point. At the current pricing structure... it's tough...
The Dual Motor option seems quite decent with the larger pack it is $79000... not quite cheap. And they also charge $2500 for paint... lol.

You don’t want to even look at the Taycan options and associated costs then.

Absolutely not. It is an abysmal proposition.

Lets get some things out of the way..... Is Rivian a great vehicle for what it is ? Absolutely, I don't think anyone can question that. But clearly there are drawbacks that were mentioned (Charging, Cost, Service, Company longevity)

Comparing it to a Tacoma is like comparing a Camry to a Taycan... Yes they are both 4 door cars that can carry 4 people... But the rest couldn't be more different. There are good/bad attributes for both.

I'm taking delivery of my R1T tomorrow. Pretty pumped to make the move from the Taco Pro. Haven't looked to see if anyone in this thread has already gotten theirs but happy to answer any comparison questions. I'll have both trucks in the garage until I get the Taco sold.
