I don't agree. EVs are now trying to enter the pickup market. That means they will be compared, and they will need to meet some basic requirements that pickups fulfill

Are you getting yours or a R1 shop build?

It's my own build, as far as I know. I was never given access to the shop.

Sounds like they have little rhyme or reason to their production process, just like Ram. My order was almost a year prior to yours and I’m getting an R1 shop build. Things like this always make me curious to see what the backend process actually looks like for production decisions.

Nice! Sounds similar to the R1S my brother in law got a couple weeks ago.

I’ve had access to the R1T shop for months now. Very tempting.

Once Rivian makes a 300hp 35k pickup we can compare it with a Tacoma. At this point it’s just trading shots across the bow.

Or a 2023 Tacoma and $35k-$55k in spending money to modify as you see fit...then compare.

I don't think that speed is of much use on the road.

Are their any videos of people autocrossing with a Rivian, sure it's fast and maybe it handles well, but it's heavy. I've seen the videos of people using the Rivian for a truck pull.

    I wonder if a Tacoma XRunner would beat a R1T in a slalom test. I'm sure a MX-5 Miata or a Toyota 86 would.

Untill EVs can find a way to drop 2000lbs, I can't see them being practical vehicles for daily use.

I tried that and the math didn’t work out in my favor. Bought my ‘22, supercharged it, had some fun and then did the math in regearing it, retuning for more power, high end suspension, etc and it was a better deal to buy the TRX than mod the Tacoma and lose my ass on it when the time came to sell it.

Right … from a financial perspective it’s always more favorable to buy the better/premodded car/truck . However it doesn’t allow the owner to have a unique vehicle.

With 2.5 million EVs on the road I’m sure there are a lot of people who disagree with you. A lot of them weight less than your Tacoma so you should probably stop driving that.

I meant to fairly compare a Tacoma to a Rivian.

But still a comparable Rivian to your truck would be over $104,000. Chances are you'd have $10-$20k in mod money toward the TRX to keep a fair comparison.

Maybe some of the compact and sub compact models. Certainly none of the pick up or SUVs on the market.

All EVs are heavier than their ICE counterparts.

Round up for the heaviest Miata, and round down for the 1st gen Tesla Roadster. The Roadster still weighs 3000lbs more than the Miata.

Let us know build quality. Some here say it will fall to pieces in a matter of months. lol

I wouldn't say that. When I bought and owned my 2000 Infiniti G20 they had stellar service at the dealership. Same with my 2015 BMW M3 if I take it to the dealership for service. They bend over backwards to get you in and out in a loaner car as fast as possible. Always ask if you'd like a cup of coffee and deliver it to you and a pretty epic snack selection if you decide to wait. Also love the fact that they wash and clean your car after service.

Last time I took my tacoma to the toyota dealership it was nowhere near on par.

I will say my experience with Porsche dealers in in the bay area has been subpar.

They won’t even offer you a loaner, unless you make the reservation weeks in advance. They do offer you a free Uber ride, but most car dealerships around here do that as well, and that’s really not a perk.

I’ve been given half assed excuses as to why they didn’t bother washing or vacuuming my cars, it was too busy, the air quality outside is “sub optimal” for their employees, and the one time my car was washed it looked like they did a half assed job and I would’ve done a better job myself.

The quality of the service was OK, but the independent Toyota and Porsche mechanics I go to do the same quality work for less.

Interesting, I have no access to the shop, mine is a Sept 2021 pre-order.
