It's cool as a nostalgic "wasn't 90's tech quant" story.

Microsoft still kinda does it and it's one of my least favorite things about the company. Compatibility layers on compatibility layers--sometimes I wish they'd just say "hey that's dumb we're not doing that anymore".

Yeah the priorities have shifted so much. Managers do weird shit when they feel like they are tryign to drive adoption.

I spend a lot of time dealing with that 'weird shit' of managers past.

 

All this talk about building a "new" pc from older components reminded me that I have a stash from days gone by. Some of it dates back to circa 2004/5 or so. But I was pretty sure there was some new newer components in that pile too.

I think all of these components are compatible but I am not sure.

lol. I think I had that same motherboard, processor and antec case.

 

I found the NewEgg receipt for the proc and mobo too. Bought them in Feb 2010.

More like a pic of the rear of the box.

 

I am only reading whats on the outside of the box but it's for a 45nm Socket LGA775 processor. Has 1600 MHz FSB to handle 1366+ DDR2 Ram. Still sealed in its plastic so kind of hard to see.

 

Reading up on it, it'd work with the E8400 I've got.

Dunno whatcha want for it; got some pc peripherals and handheld consoles listed for sale if you'd trade a case and/or mobo with it.

 

I have a gpu and a cpu for it. I think I'm going to hang onto it for now. I'd really like to build a dedicated lightroom box just not certain yet whether this would be enough to run on Windows 10 at a reasonable level.

I had this exact one for a Q6600 build lol

 

Nah I'm gonna drive it til it blows up unless something major changes. It's about perfect for running to Denver/Boulder a couple times a week

It had new tires on it so I don't plan to do anything except change the oil and maybe a tune up lol

 

From what I found online it sounds like a lot of them blew up at 100-150k so I have no idea how this one still goes. Can only push rope for so long

 

I mean, not like we're at war or anything so no need for an At4
