Oh? It was the head gasket…:anonymous: I’m not even gonna say it because this sucks Charlie.

People talk a lot of shit about the Ridgines (I am one of those proud shit talkers) but for most people they are amazing vehicles.

My parents have to help pay for the replacement of the head gasket because I did not budget for anything like this; I can afford a thermostat or a radiator, but it's going to be almost five grand when all is said and done. I will not be able to afford just any Ridgeline right now; I can afford Jim's Ridgeline, if and only if I sell my Tacoma, because Helen is offering it to me well below current value. Helen isn't actively looking to sell it right now though; I have my heart set on a base model 3rd Gen Tacoma 4x4...

I am 100% upgrading the stereo in the Ridgeline if I buy it; I'll put a couple 12s behind the backseat... :headbang:

I considered a Ridgeline over the Tacoma. Great vehicles. If I wasn’t dead set on a body on frame vehicle, might have bought one.

Just don’t post one of those “My Ridgeline is amazing and my Tacoma was trash because it blew the head gasket” threads. Because then you will definitely get some flak.

If I sell my truck and buy the Ridgeline, I will be crying when I sign the title over to whoever buys it; I love my truck, and if I buy the Ridgeline, I plan on being back in a Tacoma eventually.

5 grand for a head gasket? This is TW. Lots of people willing to help a brotha out….

    Nothing to it.

Life is short. If you have the money and Helen needs that Ridgeline, might want to just go for a new Tacoma.

Or a late model used one, but I'm probably going to have to settle for a 2.7L, because all even the cheapest V6 models are like $35K or more.

How many head gaskets have you been through on your Jeep? I'm sure there are plenty of people on TW who know what they're doing, but this is just one of those situations where I'd feel more comfortable having my mechanic I've been using for years do it. My dad seems to feel real bad that I've taken such good care of my truck and this still happened, and hunted that he is willing to pay for the whole thing. I want to save up and buy a whole new truck with my own money, though while my credit is good, I will probably have to get my dad to cosign so I can get the best interest rate.

Hey Chris, how is it that my Taco and your Jeep didn't nuke their engines?

It’s a conspiracy to draw more traffic to tundras.com o_O

I understand the desire to not take on a task beyond your level of comfort. But if you have competent folks willing to show you the way, it could be a learning experience. Plus, you’re selling the truck, so who cares if it implodes in a few k miles :anonymous:

    Stop conspiring with the mods!

How likely do think it is that there is hidden engine damage?

I have a feeling that the head gasket in my truck has been "worn out" since before COVID, and that overheating in September did it in. My friend Dave was a mechanic in a previous life, and I believe it was him who me that it is possible for worn (but not totally blown) gaskets to seal themselves with the heat from the engine...? It literally seems like oil is getting into the coolant, but not the other way around.
