the best method is always large water changes to reduce, and better maintenance to keep parameters low. once no3 and po4 get out of hand, it’s hard to get them back down.

having said that, i personally would never use any method that involves dosing vodka or anything else.

I understand completely. That is the best part of a fun hobby, we get to do as we think best for ourselves.

I had a business, and would sometimes be called in to help when something got way out of hand.

In my own tanks, I used chateomorpha algae, a protein skimmer, a rock refugium, and my own r.o.d.i. system.

Again this was almost 20 years ago, and it worked for me. It may have awful results for someone else.

i base my findings on science and 30+ years of experience. things are definitely evolving as time goes by, but some things remain the same.

Cut out 1/4 of the Chaeto. It's a 5g refugium that's been running for 10 years. The chaeto is tightly packed and rooted so there is no tumbling. Hopefully between the new RO unit and a trim to the chateo things get back to normal.

as long as it’s still growing i wouldn’t worry about having it tumble.

Got the RO system set up and running. Did a water change. I'm going to give it a day and then test all my parameters. Really looking forward to restocking my reef.

Since my local water has chloramines would it be advisable to supplement my water with amquel (chlorine and chloramine remover) when done filtering?
