Yeah they talked about a high speed rail for years and years from Tucson to Phoenix when I lived in AZ, ok build it…the public transportation in both cities is dismal at best. Now in Idaho…there is talk from Boise to Salt Lake…which both have awful inner city public trans.

    Get there and then what???

The Chinese state wants to overestimate the amount of vehicle sales so that western and Japanese and Korean companies can come to China and partner with Chinese companies to build cars there because ultimately they are interested in the intellectual property. Cars designed in China and built in China are vastly inferior to Western designs built in China like Volvo and GM.

Possibly. Different argument when talking about Gov purchases though.

Both San Marino and Andorra are tax havens. I'm sure that many of the cars registered there don't spend much time there. Not unlike Montana having a fair number of expensive cars registered in the state.

Yeah not good information for gauging sales to private citizens, but those vehicles are still passenger vehicles, and ultimately purchased by tax payer.

You said vehicles, that table is not of vehicles it is of cars, which are 4 wheeled vehicles. It doesn't include 3 or 2 wheeled vehicles in its data set there for it is not relevant for the debate, you have proved nothing. You have presented no data that supports your claim that china's "motor vehicles" are not mostly 2 or 3 wheeled vehicles. I cannot find any data that say how many 2 or 3 wheeled vehicles are in china. Presumably the CCP wants this data hidden for some reason or another. Although I can guess why. However my uncle lived in china for almost 2 decades and he says it is mostly mopeds tuktuks and few real "cars".

The latest recall includes almost all Rivian trucks. But steering is sooo overrated.

Exactly. What’s the point of taking a train to pretty much anywhere but NY or DC. What are you going to do when you get anywhere else? Rent a car.

Old news and a five minute fix without even exiting the car. Rivian recalled 12k vehicles. Toyota recalled 1.5 million vehicles for faulty fuel pumps. It happens.

When I first met my wife she didn’t own a car while she was going to college, she would take the bus it be anywhere to an hour to an hour and half. While normally it would be 15 minutes by car. I bought her a vehicle so she wouldn’t have to deal with that bullshit.

    Yeah public transportation is greaaaat.

It is great when you actually have the infrastructure and live in a walkable city.

High speed rail to inner city/ metro, subway/tube underground and tram for surface.

We have none of that here because...well....Murica.

We have it here. Just maybe not where you live. I took trains into Boston for work for many years. It sucked. It’s slow, unreliable and your jammed in with other people. I’ll sit in traffic by myself any day over mass transit.

The EX is from Cupertino, the train into San Francisco, and the bus system there wasn’t too too bad. But for cities in the middle of the West, it doesn’t make much sense too spread out. If self driving vehicles ever go main stream, that seems like better system than trains.

When I lived in PA, took the bus a few times in from 40 miles outside the city, it could get kinda close to the school I was attending, but took forever. Yeah much rather spend the extra money and drive in. Sitting in traffic was much quicker than the bus.

I'd bike on the eBike if I could, tbh. Not practical anymore, though. 25mph and being able to filter is a traffic beater in cities.

You get to see cool shit. I once took the Zephyr from a Sacramento into Denver just because I wanted to see the Sierra from that perspective. Cost more than a plane ticket. I liked it. There was a narrator (a real human!) that talked about the history at times. Not everything is about speed.

They can't even get people to ride the trains in Denver when they give them away for free, pretending like there is the demand to rip up I25 to lay 70 miles of rail is ludicrous.

Then there is the sticky issue that all the studies on feasibility of that rail put the fare at around $22 each way.

This country doesn't have the density or the desire to use commuter rail.

Especially in Colorado. Too many people live here for outdoor activities. You need a car for that. It makes no sense to pay more per mile to take a train while you still have to pay the costs of owning a vehicle.

The same poster was nice enough to break down his cost per mile here:

Here is a recent study about the same proposed route. .35 cents a mile was what they think is realistic, so let's face it, it would probably be more.

All but one of his vehicles would get him there cheaper, and all would get him there faster.

Same here in Idaho. Of course the mayor of Boise being whacked loves the idea of a train. Really no point of it other than to spend tax payer money.

The EVs look cheaper, but at the end of 10 years, the Rivian is still $22’000 more to own than my Tacoma. Funny thing about numbers…
