My brother brews beer and I bake sourdough bread; needless to say there is a barter system between the two of us. :)

Mods? We don't need no stinking mods.
I have that "Toyota Care" thing that covers routine maintenence for 36,000 miles. So I go to the dealership for the "free" oil changes and such.

But once that's up, I'm going to Jiffy Lube.

Ok, well first of all, its 2 years and 25k miles.. so that only covers 2 oil changes. So your 30k service is on you, as well as any additional oil changes youd like say at a more frequent interval.

all of us 3rd gen owners have toyota care.. and these 2 issues highlighted above came up after my last toyota care service. also, dont go to jiffy lube. those clowns have no idea what theyre doing

Over the years there have been a few times where I am out of time before a trip and desperate, in those few times (in multiple states) Jiffy Lube has screwed me including 100% of the time, including an overfill on my 2nd gen. I should know and plan better not to go to them. Proceed at your own risk.

I went on Reddit and asked for a local shop recommendation. Quite a few mentioned a shop across town that worked on Toyotas. My 30k was $648 and included transmission fluid change, front diff, rear diff, transfer case, Spark plugs, and greased all propeller shaft fittings.

    Lol. 2 years, 25k.

Jiffy Lube will screw you harder than any dealership.

You sure they did all of that? Labor rates are labor rates, techs gotta make bread, shop has bills to pay etc.... Hard to believe they got all of that done with only about $300, maybe $350 to work with after buying everything.

    Then again

Maybe they did. So good on them for being lickety split :fistbump:

is this a dealer recommend service or manufacturer recommend service. if dealer recommend tell them no and only do the manufacturer recommend stuff.

I've been going to drive-thru oil change places since I've been driving, since the mid-80s. I've yet to be screwed by one of them. I must be the luckiest human being alive since I've never had a dipstick stolen, never had an oil filter over-tightened, never had the oil over- or under-filled, etc.

Must be indeed. But drive-thru oil places are the equivalent of the dealership lubebay... Minus the training and vetting from the manufacturer

I was down in Florida a few years back and needed to get the oil changed in my wife's Camry before we headed back to Atlanta. Can't remember the name of the drive thru place I went to, but they had cameras all over the place and monitors where you could watch everything the lube tech was doing both under the car and also in the engine bay

I watched the kid drain the sump, swap out the filter cartridge, and fill the engine with new oil. He even brought the dipstick to the window to show me the new oil level. All in all a great setup and experience. They don't all suck.

maybe someone in the 11 pages of responses already said this but as per Toyota, you don't need to do all that. Dealers make up all kinds of extra work for service intervals. This is from "Toyota of Danvers" wherever that is.

Sounds to me like they were trying to be cute and just tell you the parts price. Absolutely hate it when service writers do that crap

I'm good with footing the bill for Pizza and Beer, however, I am not an advocate for overpriced dealership services. Happy Friday! :)

Side comment; in lieu of TGIF, I much prefer POETS (Piss On Everything, Tomorrow's Saturday).

As far as brake fluid, there is reason to change it.. Unless its Dot 3, Dot 4 can get go bad fast due to water retention. Cars are much heavier now, and Dot 4 can run hotter, but also doesnt last as long.
I have had to flush in 3 different cars due to it, Dot 4, going bad at less than 30k. M/B, Chevy and Jeep.. This is my experience, not saying I am correct. Just something to look into.
I do all my own fluid flushes.

I would disagree regarding a 30,000 mile threshold for Dot 4; Dot 4 is universally good for 2 years, even in racing applications, even if the car has been driven 50,000 miles in those two years.
