What Have You Done To Your 2nd Gen Tacoma Today?

I would be interested in something like this for this smooth plastic around the shifter. That smooth plastic scratches super easy.

 

Should’ve threw a little black paint on the center hub just for looks

 

Shit, yeah I'm sure I used Loctite on these in the past. Well that explains things. lol
The Sugru moldable glue stuff I used is okay, not the best hold. I'll get around to taking it out and redoing this repair for good with JB Weld.

 

Haven’t had a chance yet. It’s my daily driver and I work odd hours. Planning on taking one off tomorrow though. Any idea what the socket size is or if I need a deep socket for it?

 

Update: CEL was a P0031. Looks like along with calipers, alignment, and balance, I now have to buy a new 02 sensor. Seeing as the cheapest single cab on Autotrader in the country is $7300…maybe it’s time to move on lol

 

I got one of these also and damned if it isn’t a solid mount that holds my phone like a champ. Im tempted to get another one for the passenger side for when the wife might need to put hers there.

Hell, as solid as they are and where the mount ends up, it might be worth taking 2 of them and making a custom cross bar mount out of extrusion to add whatever accessories I’d need. It’d beat cutting into the dash like the 2TPAM would require.

 

Thinking the same thing here.

 

They have a piece for that as well. Kinda feel like a guy would want to do one or the other not sure how they would both fit up together.

I felt pretty dumb when I realized that's what the problem was on mine, considering I've done lots chemical compatibility testing for materials over the course of my career haha.

When I did my repair I just used their standard two part epoxy. It's held up really well so far, no sign of deterioration yet through many wheeling trips and ambient temps from 10F to 115F. It did help to scuff the surface up to promote better bonding to the ABS. I also used some slotted galvanized steel pieces to shore up/replace the structure of the fastener brackets (just some stuff I picked up at the hardware store then cut to size with an angle grinder). Might have been overkill, but it's not going to break anytime soon.

 

What does the MFR recommend?

 

I have the same one. I think I actually first saw it from your original post. It's awesome. Rigid, holds my phone perfectly, small footprint, easy to mount.

I held off on buying a phone mount for the longest time because all of the other options I found were too bulky, intrusive, or just sub-par. This one checked all the boxes, love it.

 

Installed some free 3g wheels. Just needed valve stems and seating the bead, plus different lug nuts. Havent checked to see if they're bent yet, but tires held 50psi overnight. Boy are these light duty tires cushy...



I may be returning to near stock, lifts are overrated. Except I'm also going to a 63 swap in the rear lol.

That's a good idea with the angle steel pieces; I may consider doing something similar for the added structure.
I was surprized how much of the Sugru putty I used to fill the void in the taillight.

 

I personally prefer marine grade axle grease. Have used it for 25+ years, in every u-joint, ball joint, and any other moving axle or joint, after seeing how well it performed in my salt water boat trailers bearings and outdrive u-joints. Never had a joint or bearing fail using it.

 

Planning for my next mod. Still deciding how much to trim. Right now I'm thinking 2" in the back, 3" in the front. Glad I ordered replacement clips for the flairs. Took a practice run today before I commit.

 

Finally got the diff breather mod done, relocated the rear diff breather to the very top of my driver's side taillight cavity. Super easy mod, less than half an hour spent.

Also did another long overdue mod - fixing the 7-pin trailer wiring harness. The previous owner smashed the entire housing on a rock/boat ramp and its been on my list for a while. I decided to drill a 2" hole smack dab in the middle of my chrome bumper behind the license plate. Installed a flip-up hinge for the plate, so now I can flip the license plate and hook up my trailer wiring.

I had no 2" hole saw, so I drilled about (40) 1/8" holes and spent some time with a rotary tool. Took some time but nothing too bad.

Truck is coming together piece by piece, I think my to-do list is finally shorter than my done list.

 

Dump truck is in the shop so the taco is stuck doing work. Towing somewhere around 6500lbs trans temps are 155

 

New shoes for my truck, Maxxis Razr A/Ts. First set of Maxxis tires but they got good reviews
