Yeah same, the “buy once, cry once” idea as the cool kids say.

My goal is to buy what I need/want for the truck once and then just forget about how much I paid for stuff and drive it for 500K miles lol

 

I personally prefer the yellow, simply because it seems to cut the early morning fog much better… not nearly as much light reflection. And on a nice clear evening, they seem to be plenty bright. Most of the time brighter than my factory halogen headlights.

sadly i think I don't spend a lot of time with it, it's almost second nature now - that's just how my brain works. I'm not particularly thrifty, but I work in a performance improvement, and that line of work has bled into my truck-life too, I suppose. blessing and a curse at times. I became frustrated seeing anything branded 'Overlanding!' have-attached to the branding a 50%+ price premium - because whatever that product is, they claim it's 'better!'...I'm wired to ask "prove it. Better how? Define 'better'" So I just kinda go there - yes, it can be exhausting. When I came up with that formula I was thinking about how to answer a newbie's question of "What is the best?" or "What do I need?". Need? Like - absolutely NEED? Well, we don't need as much as we think we need - so, newbie, don't get worried about the high cost of stuff. You can have amazing times with cheaper options.

 

And those that use military grade as a descriptive word… it might mean it can stand up to abuse but to me and a lot others it also means something different…

 

To see, I prefer white because too-often the yellow we buy is just 'dimmer, colored white light'. To "be-seen" I prefer amber/yellow. My truck came with yellow stickers on the fog lamp housings - I've kept it that way though.

You know that whole thing about "Better to have and not need, than need and not have?" I am thinking "better to not have if I don't need, than to have and I almost-never need."

 

My love life is military grade...it's never on-time; over-promised and under-delivered, costs way more than it should, and after one use, requires 24hrs to reboot.

Oh, they are definitely true to the yellow color, there’s no doubt about that. Very yellow.

 

I could use set for my base model Taco.. it's already wired, I just need to drop in some housings and get the correct dash switch.

 

In case anyone was looking at ceramic coatings yesterday I ended up buying the Adams Advanced graphene ceramic coating, bottle only while it was on sale. Saw this morning that the entire kit went on sale for a little more than the bottle alone so bought that and will return the bottle.

Now I’m watching for a cheap orbital buffer to correct the paint so I can try my hand at the ceramic coating. Lots of micro scratches in the paint.

I wouldn’t be too interested in the ceramic coating but the metallic black looks really slick when clean and shiny with the blue base and reflective flakes.

 

I have an orbital buffer if you want to use it. It is variable speed.

 

I finally got around to having my $400 85 4x4 towed up here to the mountain. I was surprised to see the driver drive down my long & washed out driveway with a new rollback. I thought for sure he was gonna drop it on my front property, I gave him that option. I gave him a nice tip for bringing it down to me. Because of these rough roads he had it winched down real tight and it didn't snap in half lol. So far I've had no luck finding a good frame section. My wife asked how long is that gonna sit there. I replied don't worry, it blends in great with these Fall colors.

 

do you have everything you need to repair on-site?

 

I might have to take you up on that..

what size pads does it use?

 

I told the wife "The color blends in with the ground too. Can't even see it sitting there." Lol.

Thanks and I’ll definitely let you know if/when I need it. My truck is not bad but there are a lot of those swirl marks and scratches… plus where the wife’s car door would hit mine before the sliders lol.
