Hey everyone, just got the bad news that my 1997 Tacoma needs a new automatic transmission. It is running but slipping and late shifting. Other than that it is in decent condition for its age and I'm hoping to sell it to someone who can take on a rebuild/replacement project as I don't have the skills to do it myself or the money for a pro job. How would you all go about pricing this sort of sale? I want to sell it to someone who will use it or fix it as it's a fine truck, but also get as much out of it as I can to put towards a replacement. Thanks for any advice you all might have.

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
    Welcome to the forum??

If you were close I would be glad to help

It is a little better it can still be driven .

What are the tires like anything special?

The fact is you are not going to get much for a down payment.

It might bring $ 1500.00 if it is perfect.

I am located in central NC. It is a 2wd extend cab 4 cylinder. Tires are just street tires, I have added a hitch and some other stuff but no serious investments into it.

Should consider looking for a salvage transmission. Depending on your area, you might be able to work together with a fellow forum member who might like to assist (?). Check the regional section and see if there is a Carolinas' thread in there somewhere.

To give you an example, I was able to find a decent (160k mile) A340F transmission for about 800 bucks shipped to my door. I've never pulled a transmission but like many others, feel confident armed with factory info along with this forum and multiple online sources to get the job done. Doing it yourself, you could increase that asking price by thousands or even keep it. Just a thought.

    Cheers, GLWS.

    Prerunner? or 5 lug 2WD ??

Great platform to start a 5 speed 4x4 project.

Poorly painted hood, glasspack/muffler, toolbox on rear portion of bed, El cheapo radio n speakers.
Extended cab, 4 banger, stick... And in NC. Yeah, snag up a junkyard trans and test the waters. In all honesty, I'd pay upwards of 2200 for that. Down in SC any Toyota truck is like gold, cheapest I've found is around 1,000 and the motor's shot in it.

yea find one at a salvage yard or maybe from someone on the forums. I got some parts from a member on here that is in Apex NC i think. I know he had told me he has access to many tacoma parts even transmissions and diffs. He is the knuckle/spindle butcher on here. Cant recall his username

Great guy, outstanding work. He refurbed a pair of CVs for me and was able to track down a manual diff tube. Top notch.
