That's a tricky question that will generate many different responses and opinions.

I'd say if you have over 100k and you are doing the other idler pulleys and what not it's a great time to replace it as cheap insurance. Why have a new belt, pulleys, etc. and let an old worn tensioner not let the other new stuff function optimally? That's my opinion just to be clear.

Will it work without changing the tensioner? Yes of course. Will it work perfectly like a new one? Depends, is the current one worn out or have lots of miles on it? It's a guessing game really.

I like cheap insurance and peace of mind. If I already have it mostly apart and it's time then I'm replacing it but thats just me.
