anyone know what factory speakers are in my prerunner? i can't get a solid answer...crutchfield is bouncing around 5 1/4, 6x8 and 5x7 for door and rear side...do they all fit? i was planning on changing them out myself and want to know the easiest route to go...i'm about to put an old kenwood cd player in so i have a usb for music...and a powered sub for under the seat

i do like the in dash nav but the extra shelf under the single din radio is nice

it's been a long time since i've done any of this stuff! because it's powered, the sub runs right to the head unit so i don't need an amp? should i tackle the tweeters in the door since i'll have the panel off?

i'm excited to jump into this...are there better places than crutchfield to shop for prices and ease?

There is an audio sub forum you might get more traction in.

It's been 20 years since I replaced my speakers, so I'm very little help- but I suggest you pop your door panels off and take a look. I'd suggest getting an interior trim removal kit and some door panel snaps (from Amazon) before you do, so that you have replacements on hand. The original plastic is likely to break at this point.

they are 5x7 front and rear

I got adapters and used 6.5s in the front but kept the 5x7 in the rear with Infinity brand (years ago)

Getting the rear speakers exposed for replacement requires removal of several interior trim pieces. Not difficult, just mind the order of operations. * this is also the ideal time to replace your rear side window locks if they’re broken. Same pieces need to come off for speaker accessibility.

Also I had it in my memory that the front and rear speaker sizes for my 2001 xtracab were 6x9 but I could be misremembering. Definitely the same size front and back that’s for sure.

How do you like those rear speakers? I want to change mine as well, but I want some speakers that will have decent bass since I don't want to install a sub. Some speakers with bass good enough to hear the double bass in metal music lol

I'm not 100% sure about the factory sizes, but I installed 6x8s in the front and rear and some JBL Club 750T 3/4in tweeters in the door. Installing aftermarket 6x8s will require a little cutting on the black plastic mount, but it's worth doing. A few pics:

Can’t speak to the bass necessarily, as I turned my speaker bass down since I do have a 12” alpine behind the passenger seat. Whole system sounds great to me.

Worst case scenario I'll just buy one of those skinny sub/amp combos that can fit under the passenger seat. I just want a more full sound, don't care about having a lot of bass.

I am trying to install some 6x8 kickers in the rear doors and I believe it is going to require me to cut the plastic bracket and the metal that is right behind it. I am initially hesitant to do so, but what do you think would be the best way to do so?

if the speakers are too "deep" then the windows will not roll down, keep that in mind

Yeah I thought that was going to be a problem but after going in and looking it just needs a few mm to sit properly. It would be sitting right where the metal is and I don't believe much further than that if at all.

I wish I took some pictures of the rear speaker install, I swapped them out in 2019 while I was installing sound deadening material. I installed Pioneer 6x8s in the rear, but I don't have the model number so I'm not sure how the size of the driver compares to the Kickers you have. They were $85, so they were probably something like this:

    https://www.bestbuy.com/site/pionee...nge-coaxial-pair-blue/6454572.p?skuId=6454572

I vaguely remember modifying the plastic mount, but I don't think I had to cut any metal. Would be curious to see a picture of what you're working with.

I just put some 6x8 speakers in the rear of my extra cab and I didn't do any modification to mount it.

I put a pair of Focal ISU 130 in the front and a pair of Focal ICU 570 in the rear. The Crutchfield instructions initially recommend a different size for the back with the use of their adapter but that needed further cutting etc, so I sent them back and ended up with the ICU 570 that bolted right in. Their sizes should be helpful.
