Hell yeah! It seems like I am missing a lot of the groups due to the fact that I have never had Facebook and I been off of IG for a couple of months already. Another thing is that Ventura doesn’t have legal places to wheel or have fun whatsoever. For me the next trip I have planned it’s 2023 KOH and a coworker wants to go to hungry valley ohv, but we’ll see.

I’ve never really explored it, but there could be some spots at Los Padres NF. :notsure:

If you don’t mind the drive, you can try going farther up north to Santa Margarita / San Luis Obispo area and hit up the Cuesta Ridge Botanical Area via TV Tower Rd. off of 101Hwy. Just be careful turning into/exiting the driveway/street at the highway. Cars go fast downhill there. Anyway, there are places on TV Tower Rd. to hike, ride mtb, dispersed camping, go wheeling. I just don’t think plinking/target shooting is allowed up there.

This was my campsite off of TV Tower Rd. for a night above the clouds on my way up to catch up with our group in Big Sur. It can get super windy there, so bring ear plugs if you’re a light sleeper.

No problem. Look into the Ojai area, too. I’ve heard some people go wheeling and camping up that way. Also, Goodenough Road in Fillmore might have some trails available. If you go a little farther east on 126 and go toward Santa Clarita Valley, you can try the Rowher Flats trail.

You can also mall crawl at The Collection. I do that sometimes and hunt for tacos with the wifey. Taqueria Cuernavaca and La Bonita are some of my wife’s and my go to spots in that area.

I've been looking at some of those dome style auto awnings like the HASIKA one pictured in your photos. How do you like it? Have you used in in inclement weather, Wind, Rain, Snow?

Same, built my own DIY awning and have had success with it but would love a more secure and easy to set up option. I know a full time always on awning would be the easiest but I really like keeping a simple clean look on my truck while daily driving.

But not here, the sand is very fine and gets in everything .
After the 15 of September you can drive on the beach ,the longest one is about 23 km long(14 miles) very cool !

    Just the basics
You can always start with tarps such as the Kelty tarp line. Lightweight, fairly easy to deploy and not as much money as a full-time awning. I will say having the simple steadfast ARB awning (with awning room) was a game changer for me. I still carry two different sizes of Kelty tarps in the drawer buildout I did for my truck.

This was from a trip earlier this year. Formal campground in Joshua Tree and the way the site was set up I couldn't utilize my awning so I threw up a tarp. Worked great for a quick one day stop.

    Adjustable tarp poles from Amazon
the rest is just a tarp, tent stakes, tie downs, and some heavy duty bungee chords attached to the roof rack to hold it onto the truck.

a little here, a little there
This was the first time using it actually. It sets up really easy, the poles are pretty cheap so I could see them breaking eventually, and you definitely need to keep the ropes tight (it blew over once).

The wife and I raced up into the Cascades to camp on a Friday night after work for her birthday. Mt Rainier even peeked his head out over the forest fire smoke. Made for a great sunset!

Looks like you got away from the smoke! I was around Hood Canal this weekend and was able to stay above most of it. Great photos…perfect weekend for it!

I did a very similar thing except I used carabiners attached to the rack via a set of eye nuts mounted to the rack. I like he bungee chord idea!
