Clean cuts

 

Just looked at their website, yeah looks like a totally different design now. The old ones come out the side of the cowling, and mounted under the hood hinges. I apparently have the old shitty design:

 

Here is how they sit for me. Looks like you do have an earlier version. The driver side has an R cutout.

 

I've had no issues with the CBI ones. Had them for a long time now. Decent positioning for if you wanna orient the lights as ditch lights or point them forward over the hood.
I like the design so that they don't tilt up with the hood when you pop it open.
Did have to trim the cowl though.

 

x2 on the CBI ones, pretty sure they were the only ones when I was in the market for em. No issues besides cutting the cowl that nobody can see now

Oh, yeah those are pretty floppy and rattly. I hadn't seen that happen before but I have seen the bedsides start to tear near there on others' trucks.

 

Just find a parts truck and get the mud flap brackets and cut them to fit. What I did. Works great

 

Yeah completely torn on both sides. This bed has gone through so many various configurations and experiments over the years and I am wanting to start fresh with a rust free southern or western bed in good condition now that I feel like I finally have it the way I like it. The bed rails and floor are littered with holes and I would love to have a blank canvas now that I think my setup is pretty much dialed.

Eh ain't worth fixing now, but yeah I saw that as a potential option. Anything is easy to make with a welder and some time now though.

 

Regarding CVs, any of you Toyota reman CV users notice any differences between the reman and the original OE CV? From a cost perspective, it looks to be cheaper to go with the reman vs grabbing a salvaged/used OE axle and refurbing it yourself.

 

The remans are discontinued through Toyota but you might be able to find them in stock online or locally at the dealer. I got mine a couple years ago and its held up fine, just a rebuilt OEM axle. They slap a chrome sticker on it with the Toyota emblem rather than a green sticker that the new ones have (or blue wrap ones for manual hub)

CVJ sells reman OEM axles too for the same price last I checked (after core return)

 

They're just rebuilt CV axles, based on OEM as mentioned above.

I know you're not considering aftermarket (which is good) but most have found that parts store cv axles have less travel than factory cv axles do.

Not a problem for most but if you intend to wheel, you don't want cheap cv axles limiting your travel.

 

Still a few toyo parts depts which have them in stock. I simply wanted another pair on hand and am not interested in any store brands. The ones I did find from Toyota do require a core exchange. I ended up grabbing two OEM blues from a yard and will just give them the treatment.

They required a core? That's weird esp if they're discontinued and not selling more. When I got them, they were a set price but cheaper if you provided a core (like $40 cheaper or so).

I had them shipped and never got around to shipping my old ones back so didn't get the discount.

and more report it in stock, about the same price but that $75 core charge is standard apparently. Oh well.

Yeah that sounds right, you pay the core charge up front and if you return a core, you get that money back. I didn't really word it right in my last post. Should be able to order it even if you don't plan on returning a core.
