Thanks for the info - curious if the 6-speed manual has similar issues. currently trying to find more info so will be searching this thread. Factory 4.30s are a plus on the M/T

    Trolling lol.
No there's another thread that's been going on about someone putting a SC on their truck and the trans is toast. And Toyota won't warranty it.

no worries, man! I appreciate the link. I just thought the folks in the thread piled onto the OP without need. really sounded like a bunch of guys who wished they had SCers and were salty.

I would totally do that if I was able to convince a SC owner to sell me theirs. Because I'm salty AF that I don't have one. Lol. But I don't see that happening so I just live vicariously through all of you.

So chime in with your thoughts guys. Basically I have a 2016 TRD off road Tacoma with the manual transmission. Very minimal mods. Just a basic 5100 lift and skid plate and a rsi smart cap topper. I absolutely love my truck and will drive it until it’s a pile of rust. I currently have 166k miles on it. Mostly highway and I’ve religiously changed the oil every 7k miles and kept up on all maintenance and fluids. Truck continues to drive like it did the day I got it I love it’s size and its perfect for what I do. I just want slightly more power for towing my boat and don’t want to spend 70k on a new full sized truck. So I’d like to install the supercharger. In all honesty does it make sense and is it a smart thing to do with so many miles on my truck?

1000% yes. I use mine to tow my autocross race truck (trailer with truck and gear is probably around 5k lbs) and my talon 1000x-4 (3200ish lbs talon and trailer). The difference before and after the blower is amazing. Especially if you get the Stryker tune, because the Maggie tune really does suck.

I dont even have the Stryker tune yet, and Id say yes 1000% too if you love your truck.

Thanks! So ya don’t think the 166,000 miles I have on the engine will lead to failure if I boost it? They were easy miles mostly interstate. And then towing a 3000lb boat in summer a couple days a week.

Do you have any reason to believe that the engine is unhealthy?

Nope none. Runs as well as it did day 1, I just wasn’t sure if it having more wear and tear in general was a no go.

Then personally I wouldn't worry about it. But it's ultimately your decision.

@Kingair84 I would caution you, as the gears get miles on them, they get work hardened. I think you may be more likely to break your tranny or rearend, if you supercharge with so many miles. Not sure how many have a supercharger with anywhere near that many miles. Also would expect that the engine with those miles will have some additional blow-by happening, and that will certainly increase wiith boost, so you could expect to push more oil vapor into the intake, which decreases the efficiency of the SC Cooler, so a catch can is a must.

The breaking gears thing was what my automotive professor used to tell me with modding high mileage vehicles; so I am sure there is some merit to it, but would only prove out (or disprove) if others have that many moles with a SC.

    New SC owner here..

Think about adding a boost gauge. There are lots of options for gauges and the install is straight-forward.. but what about mounting options?

I only want to run a single gauge and I don't like the idea of blocking the instrument panel with a dual gauge setup (and only use one of the two ports). Any suggestions? Any pics of your setups?!

    :)

I had a vent mount from @Bigetaco22 for my boost gauge with my twin turbo kit

    Lol no kidding

    What's this from?

I know there's a company that has full replacements for the 2020+ 4R, I'd assume they've got stuff for other Toyotas. I'd have to look up the company name, don't remember it off the top of my head.

Meso was trying for awhile to get into the cluster to have boost be an available reading in there but he eventually abandoned that.

I would totally go for this if it wasn't so expensive now. I had a TRD supercharger on my 97 Tacoma and it wasn't near as expensive as they are now, even inflation adjusted.
