    Home sick today.

Checked work emails (my mistake, I know)
    • New camera is down.
    • Can we meet to go over some changes on a map you made a year and a half ago?
    • A sign isn't going to be here in time for the ribbon cutting and we need it for CO. Can you print one?
      • Currently installing AutoCAD on my home computer for this one.
    • Can youbsend floor plans to this professor?
That's all in the first hour and a half. When it rains, it pours.

I don't get NDSU. Why would anyone other than Facilities Maintenance or a Contractor need floor plans?! :annoyed:

    Also, feel better soon, Drew!

I hid my little 21gal in the closet in the garage. Little bugger is loud!

Put a hose reel by the garage door for ease of access.

It won't do blast cabinets, but runs my impact, air hammer, and my H-F spray gun for various projects.

Hydraulic question for the group: We blew a line on our fairgrounds geriatric IH 384 - the pressure line coming into the control valve block. Unfortunately (and entertainingly) it blew right at the 90 going into the block and the fellow that was on it got a bit of a bath, so by the time time he shut the machine down, most of the hydraulic fluid was now outside the machine. I had a new line made up and filled up the reservoir and flashed up the tractor. As expected the rams were a bit sluggish, and for some reason the main lift cylinders wouldn't go down. They'd go up... not happily, but as expected with a lot of air in the system, but they would NOT go down.... at full lift we got 'trapped' in that trying to raise any higher we came up on the relief, but equally, trying to lower them opened the relief. WTF?

I've changed a few lines in my time, and never had to do anything more than keep cycling the system until all the air was out of it. I figured because this one was basically empty it was going to be a bit of a <female dog>, but as it sits the rams are at full extension, and operating the valve in either direction causes the relief to open. Is this a case of needing to bleed it like a fuel system, starting at the pump, and working along the system? It's not the 'air in the pump' squeal...

I can answer this one!!!! I used to be a mechanical/piping designer in the AEC industry and 75% of our work was higher education/university/research. For some odd reason universities like to let every damn professor have a say on floor plan layouts and equipment layouts. Everyone from the chemistry prof to to the volleyball coach. It’s freaking annoying because they would always request the changes last minute before signed drawings had to go out. Then there would be an issue and a change order to put it back the right way.

sorry rant over. Bad memories from that industry. Lol.

lol. Thankfully she sleeps through a lot. My CNC mill is not too loud. I usually run fairly conservative speeds and feed so it’s not screaming.

We have civil, mechanical and electrical engineering, architecture and landscape architecture and interior design majors on campus. Over the years, all of them have wanted floor plans for various student projects because it's buildings that they can go to or see being built.

One student wanted elevations for one of our high rises to see how many solar panels they could fit on it. Nice idea but the payback was something like 15 years.
    Much appreciated. :)

While we do discuss their needs and wants before the plans go out, the departments don't get to make the final decisions.

Case in point - for our newly finished building, the plans were given to the researchers to look over to see if they needed anything added or changed in their labs (because we don't know if they need the fume hood next to the centrifuge or if it should be on the other side of the room). We had every one of them sign off on either the changes or the "nope, everything looks great".

Fast forward to moving equipment in and receptacles were too high, in the wrong locations, etc. They start complaining until they're reminded that they signed off on it and if anything needs to be changed now, it will cost the department. Some things did need to be addressed but most stayed.

My coworker works harder, not smarter and complains about EVERYTHING. He just brought a saw blade over here and ask could I weld it back together. I said no, it won't hold, I've tried several times. We have some news ones over there in boxes. He said yeah I know but this one was cutting so good

Correct. Unfortunately I dealt with a few university facilities groups that would allow those “late changes” and ect. Of course with change orders back to them. I just hated having to go back and update the drawings.

One neat thing for me, I had worked on the designs for a lot of buildings at the University of Houston. Then later attended that university to get my bachelors degree. I really loved seeing my work all across campus from the new chem building, the central plant renovations, and to the parking garages.

i will take late changes over a facilities group that starts cutting requirements to save money without telling the end users. “hey we ran out of money so you’re going to be missing the power you need to run 8 of those CNCs.” Or the dreaded “we are 5 years behind schedule so we are just going to close out the contract without the functioning fire alarm or half of your requirements in the building”

Just like my guy. If something can be done correctly the easy way or the hard way, he does it the hard way every time, and then tells you how difficult it was.

Thanks! It'll get sorted out, but I figured chances were someone here could probably shed some light on it.
