Part of the problem with rate increases is they form a feedback loop that pushes up the housing component of CPI.

House prices only go down when you give NINJA loans to bottom-income earners.

No one is going to sell their home they have a 400k mortgage on for 300k on the basis that with increased interest rates the payment is the same. Fuck you. I'm not moving out 100k underwater on a mortgage for a house I don't even own anymore because of your interest rate.

So, high prices + high interest = a bigass number for landlords to compare rent to. Because those are the options. Rent or buy.

Housing rises across the board, CPI pushes up because of it, rate increases fuel the fire.

This is, of course, unless something collapses. Witness 2008.

Sadly that's true. What ultimately tames inflation is when consumer spending drops. If people have money they will spend it. So you need people to not have money. No job, no money.
