Have a drink and relax. You hold the cup. Hockey season is here again. Kapricov is coming for you.

Yeah that's what I think, problem it was probably overfilled at 10k, took it back to the same dealership at 15k and expressed that concern along with my symptoms and the oil in intake, they said everything was normal and performed maintenance again. Think I'll just drain, clean the intake and hoses, refill myself and move on. If I still encounter problems due to my engine being previously overfilled then it's on them I have all the invoices and I stupidly opted to have them do the maintenance so I certainly didn't do anything wrong other than trust the dealership. So you think it's possible there's further damage to my engine?

If it has been running fine then probably not. Some unlucky people have accidentally drained the trans fluid and double filled their engine, ran the engine and they were okay. I would certainly keep it in mind though and have the dealership document it.

As far as reading the dip stick, I found it hard to read as well as stated above. Watched the Care Car Nut and he says after you turn it off on a flat level surface wait 2 minutes and then take a reading. WTF? In the past I always used to read mine the next day after the oil all goes back into the pan for an accurate reading. Anyhow, tried CCN method and viola no problem reading the level now.

    Check build thread!
Do it yourself or find a good Indy shop (they exist!) and stick with them. Those guys really appreciate loyalty and will treat you right. Talk to other enthusiasts in the community and find out what shop they recommend. Usually if you can find a shop that a bunch of car/truck people recommend, they’ll be good.

Scuff it with some sand paper, helps see the oil level very clearly.

I'd want to know if there's "too much oil" because someone put too much oil in it, or if there's "too much oil" because there's antifreeze added to it. Pretty young to have such a problem, but crazier things have happened.

If your oil level is high it could ultimately be causing that rough running. Not because of the level, but because the excess oil in your intake has likely fouled a lot of things. If your oil level is way too high it can potentially grenade an engine as your crank is not supposed to sit in the oil. Like everyone else has suggested. Change your own oil so you know the level is right and check your dipstick so you will know for future reference. I also agree with you that when you have clean oil in your truck the dipstick is really hard to read. Next thing I would do is clean both your MAF sensor and your throttle body really well. MAF is less likely to be fouled, but it can still get dirty over time. A really fouled TB can lead to rough idle. Also, note that MAF cleaner and Throttle body cleaner are typically two different chemicals so by a can of both.

Can someone explain how having too much oil is causing this? It's not abnormal to have a little oil in there.

I’m going to go against the grain here and people are gonna be butt hurt, but I wouldn’t take it anywhere else BUT a dealer at this point. That way there is proper documentation that Toyota is the only party who has touched your truck. If anything were to happen, you are then able to point the finger right back at them and have all the documentation within their system to back you up.

Agreed, and have all verbal comms turned virtual; aka, anything they tell you face to face or on the phone, ask for it to be documented on your service tickets/receipts. Nothing wrong with being on the phone with the service advisor, and saying "I'm currently driving and can't jot that down right now, can you email me a brief summary of what you just told me or include that on my receipt?" I tend to believe that every employee at every dealership ISN'T out to get me, or royally screw me over. They may say some stupid crap, give you the run around, or just be wrong altogether, but I think its 'mostly' just lack of training/education for their position. You don't need enough documentation to build a court case over every single time you have a service done, but weird things like this do need to be documented. They might not be trying to screw you over intentionally, or they may be who knows; all that matters is that you paid for a truck with a warranty, and sometimes documentation is the very thing you need to escalate it accordingly. Its always gonna be their story against yours, and a service manager trusts that his employees are resolving issues when they say they have. Give them the facts.

I think it's a stuck PCV valve but they could've overfilled it.

Also you are still under warranty take it back to the dealer and raise hell. Maybe the monkeys put 7 quarts in by accident or something.

I’d replace the PCV. Cheap and easy to do and could be the cause. I change mine every 25k.

If you are sure it is overfilled (and it sounds like that might very well be the case) I too would take it back to the dealer that serviced it, so they can witness and document they overfilled it, should anything else resulting from that appear.

Does your OR have the same amount of oil coming from that hose? The hose in question which are what the pictures are of is on the other side of the engine than the pcv (left side if facing engine bay). The PCV valve is on the right side where some people install an oil catch can. I'm still having oil leak into my intake, which is puzzling me. Might have to take her into a smaller Toyota shop because I have no idea what's causing this.

My post may seem unrelated to your oil exuding issue, but pop your coils off and check your spark plugs for proper torque. Rough running = loose spark plugs. Been there, had that. It can take a while for those symptoms to manifest themselves, resultant from loose spark plugs..

What brand oil do you use? Some brands are darker than others and easier to see. How many miles before you check or change it after a fill, run it till it’s dark and then check? lol. My tacoma dipstick is the hardest to read of any automobile I’ve owned in 50 years of driving using Toyota 0-20W. Scuffing the tip helped some. And I do know how to check oil lol.
