I'll play around with making one tomorrow. Got my Tundra on the hoist and I kind of need that back on its own wheels.

Here is my second oldest, built in December of 1944.
This is a Curtis D96 series, the line is still built today and called Master line.

    KIMG2522.jpg

This unit, like all Rolls Royce class machines has disk valves, located under these easy to access plugs.

    KIMG2526.jpg

There used to be an unloader mounted on the upper right plug. It operated by centrifugal weights on the flywheel and a linkage up to the valve.

Curtis still builds this machine in St. Louis - since 1897.

    KIMG2524.jpg

Still has the original 1-1/2 hp Wagner electric motor. This is a brush style motor.
    Also built in St. Louis.

    One more air compressor story...
When I was a mere lad, three years out of engineering university, I was assigned a task of working on a very old design compressor, maybe 30 years, of a six stage, 16,000 psi compressor. It was used to start a non conventional sub propulsion unit for a branch of the military. It had been designed before I was born and I had to make a design change for our customer. Lol to say I was scared was an understatement...
It was fine, it worked out and I was fine. Just scared.

16k psi is no joke. I've pressured up a vessel to 21k for a 24 hour test before. I didn't like to get within even 6' of it.

We had one at the FD we filled air tanks with, it only went to 2,200 psi, I didn’t want to be in the building when we ran it :D

Not sure, small window to get the picture and didn’t have time to see if it had markings on it.

I was sitting at a stop light yesterday and saw a nice old Porsche like this one stop at the other light. You don’t see many at all around these parts.

    4BD8E639-7C22-4B62-8CC5-29836699432C.jpg

Then a Dodge with a big bumper like this came up behind him.

    CEAB2AA3-17AD-4657-B18B-D2ABF7D4BD90.jpg

And somehow the dodge didn’t stop in time and mashed the rear end, it mainly pushed the wing forward. Dude got out and was hot, understandably.
