As a guy who does 10k+ a month in the winter, I’ll never not have dedicated snows. Saves wear on my nice rims and tires, no corrosion on the nice rims, don’t have to put milage on the A/Ts in the winter, they get better gas mileage, and they are obviously, amazing in snow and ice.

The way things are, stock is very low or non existant. My rim there are only 3 left in Canada if I wanted one and there was no word on replenishing stock.

I’m an idiot, forgot to mention

Toyo G3 Ice. I run Toyota OEM steelies (50 bucks a rim). I like them a lot so far, done about 35k on them. Never had an issue, never been stuck *knock on wood*. My dad has Yokohama Iceguard IG51Vs on his diesel GMC 1500. He SWEARS by them. Will not run anything else on his trucks. I think he’s on his 10th set or so, he puts them on everything he owns (including his business trucks) and well, hes never been stuck or had an issue yet *knock on wood*. My mom also runs these on her Jeep.

surviving the Alaskan highway and mayhap the Dempster is something different that your run of the mill "adventure"....

ok so i shouldn't worry my head over it all too much then and the ST MAXXes will hold on just fine for the time being.
But ultimately either the fancy Toyos @MaverickT883 or studded Duratracs (which was one of the options) it is then. Can't find STMaxxes anywhere and by what @Tridet167 had confirmed, rare asf tire that is no longer around. (damned shame too :pout:)

yeah i've been warned with studs fairly often by everyone, only stuff em into new rubber.

there are 3 tire shops up here. everyone runs "the recommended" from that tireshop lol saw a Tacoma with fresh Blizzaks

I'm aware of the capabilities of winter tires. Which reminds me. @somebody what tires do you run specifically?

Well on Ice roads you will not be going that fast, especially if you are loaded heavily.
Your butt is gonna be puckered from the cracking noises.
Lol some of those pops and bangs from the ice can get pretty loud. So bring extra knickers.
If your truck does go through, roll your window down immediately, otherwise the door becomes impossible to open when you are under water.
Pressure has to equalize for the door to open.
But the ice will be really thick when you go out there so should be nothing to worry about.

And as for you being worried about overloaded tires.... Some people in India and Thailand want to put your mind at ease...

Sometimes depending where you are, a good set of chains are a good idea to keep in the truck.
( along with emergency heaters, blanket, heavy boots and snowsuit)
Heavy snowstorms can come up suddenly and make driving impossible.

Bridgestone Blzzak dm-v2. I've had blizzaks on 3 different cars with Michelin x-ice thrown in between. Friends that have had blizzaks and tries other brands have all gone back to bridgestone. The one in the pic are 255/70/17 and held on fine at 12psi that day.

regarding loads with these. i moved in the winter with many fully loaded (bed + trailer) trips across the city (hamilton to durham). i just aired up the rears appropriately for the load and had no issues. Theres LT versions of blizzaks as well if you are really concerned about weight. Looks like they are a little more packed snow, ice and water focused over the blockiness of the dmv2

The x-ice were better road going tire and slight advantage on ice grip. in snow and deep snow, the blizzaks are better. I wouldnt call them far behind on ice either. Quiet too. Road manners and driving wise the blizzaks are not as good as the x-ice but still way up there, better than the stock all seasons for sure.

Cost wise (in this size) they are a great value ~$260ea for my size

Price checked, local shops dont have the G3s but can get 265/70R16 observe GSI6, any idea how well those would hold up? I never had Toyos before

Locals want $1650 all installed for the dm-v2 in a 265/70R16

I was planning on upsizing to a 17 anyways.
Integra tire wants $1800 fully installed onto existing rims.

Now i have every reason to get st maxxes again!
Locals only had 3. would be $1800 for a full 4 set installed

I love the ST maxx's all day. Great in every condition and a beast on the trails. I wouldn't buy anything else except now going to 35's, I want the Kenda's to limit the rubbing.

For the 1600vs the 1800 for the cooprs. I might as well get the for the winter but ice will forever be my worry.

I watched @somebody make @tacoma16 @Norilsk and myself look like clowns on the winter run.

I’ve heard they’re good, driven a outback on them and it was unstoppable. I’ve never had bad luck with Toyos. Yokos and Bridgestones are amazing as well. Blizzaks and Xice are awesome, just super pricy.
