It's dated with the time I filed the claim with the scrapyard's insurance company, so I'm guessing that's who reported it...

I'd really like to buy an AWD Prius, as that would solve two of my issues (gas mileage and getting around in the snow), but they are virtually impossible to find. Selling my truck as-is would provide a decent down payment. The exact new Tacoma I want is like five grand more than a Prius LE AWD-e, and again my truck would provide a decent down payment if I sold it; I've got excellent credit so I could get a decent interest rate. However, no dealership has what I want, and Thompson is the only one in my area that isn't gouging out the ass for everything on the lot.

    @Plain Jane Taco

The ONLY reason I am not selling my current truck to my mechanic is because of the frame replacement and all of the parts that were replaced as a result. If my truck had the original frame, I would be cutting my losses and selling it as-is. Also, my mechanic's price for all of the labor involved with installing the engine is not bad at all. The engine is $5,400; I don't know if you read the parts breakdown, but the engine includes an 18-month warranty with coverage of up to $1,100 for labor.

I also don't want you to think I am doing this impulsively; I have researched this extensively, and examined every possible avenue. I was even considering a Chevy Colorado, but according to my research, 2018-2019 models do not have features like blind spot warning and automatic braking. 2018-2019 Tacos, even the base models, have these features; I DO NOT want a Ford Ranger, first of all because a V6 isn't available and second of all because it's a FORD. I did like the Maverick, but I heard that dealers are charging $15K over sticker for in-stock inventory. My uncle is rich and was going to order a Maverick, but the dealer keeps giving him the runaround and he is likely going to cancel his order; I don't know if this matters, but my uncle lives in the Myrtle Beach area and was going to order from a dealer in South Carolina. My other uncle in California was going to sell his 2006 Dodge Ram 2500 Cummins and buy and F150 Lightning, but Ford just jacked up the price and the waiting list is too long. Fred Beans Ford, a dealer in my area, had a base model F150 Lightning on the lot for like $15K over MSRP.

I realize fully that fixing my truck is losing money, but I also refuse to pay more than sticker price for a new vehicle or a new vehicle price for a used vehicle. My dad ended up not buying a new 4Runner in 1996 because no dealer would sell below MSRP, and he bought a new 1996 Nissan Pathfinder instead. My dad has always told me to NEVER pay sticker. In today's market, paying exactly MSRP for a NEW Tacoma is palatable.

I would buy either of those in a heartbeat; I really like the 2022 Corolla SE 6-speed!

It took me weeks to locate and get the 2 Corollas I bought this year. Very difficult.

There will be no 6 speeds for '23

Hard to justify producing them when nobody wants them. Society has become so soft

You bought two Corollas? I remember the white one for your wife, and I know your daughter has the Yaris. Did you replace the Yaris?

    :amen:

One of the proudest moments in my life was when I learned the art of the third pedal in my uncle's 1991 Toyota pickup back in 2014 at the age of 25, and then my other uncle let me drive his 1971 VW Bus in October 2017 as you probably remember...

My daughter faithfully, and without complaint drove that old Yaris for more than 4 years. She's a junior in college and has school paid for on an academic scholarship to a private institution. She's worked her ass off her whole life and is such a great kid.

I decided back in the spring to upgrade her transportation and give my wife's '19 to her.

I bought the wife a '22 SE Nightshade.

And in August I traded my Tacoma for a '22 SE Hatchback.

I still have the Yaris. Not really costing me anything to hang on to it. In less than a year my youngest will be 16. So maybe I'll keep it for that.

For me it was a 1996 Ford Ranger.
My dad still has that truck with the original engine.
We put one clutch in it in 250k miles.

And that was because he tried to pull a garbage truck across a gravel lot so, it was closer to the shop.
That pretty much did that clutch in.

My plan eventually is to get an old truck to tinker with and be able to make the occasional Home Depot run. But until then and to give myself a bit of utility I bought a small trailer to tow behind the Yaris. It already had a class 1 hitch that we use for a bike rack.

I still need to build a bed for it.
